Had to phone Prudential last night as my daughter knocked my wife's Dell Latitude Cpx off the table and it bounced off the conservatory floor. The case is smashed, the docking bays are damaged, it has a rattly inside and it now freezes on boot or just after booting up. I had my claim put through to Powerplay who contacted me within the hour to say what they would be doing. Parcelline will be picking it tomorrow and they will assess whether it can be repaired or it will be replaced.
Question is, if it needs replacing how do they normally decide what to replace it with, the Cpx is well over 5 years old and is no longer available. As it will be covered by my New for Old would it have to be replaced by a Dell?0 -
Well it was picked up 9.40am yesterday morning by Parceline so i await Powerplays response!0

Well they contacted me last Thursday and i spoke to them Friday. They are replacing my wife's laptop with a new Dell D630 which will be delivered Tuesday 4th December. So Far no issues with them0

Zurich insurance accepted my stolen laptop claim but powerplay are refusing to replace the laptop without proof of purchase/specification. They have offered base model which is no use for me or comes to the specification of the stolen laptop. The laptop was a 50th birthday present from my family some 18mnths ago. got no proof of purchase and Dell can't find copy invoice from info i have given(my be incorrect as family can't remember exactly). I am at wits end. It seems they think i am a liar although police caught theft on video but had to let go as they could not prove indentity.video evidence and crime report but still no replacement???????????
The reason Powerplay are asking for proof of ownership is because Zurich have asked them to get it before replacing the laptop. Why would they hold up the replacement when this is how they make their money? The longer it drags on the longer it is before they get paid. There are set rules that Powerplay have to stick to and these rules are made by the insurance companies. They dictate the policies and in some cases the suppliers used to source replacements.0 -
Accidentally knocked something on my Apple MacBook Pro, the screen is cracked. Called Barclays Insurance who then got a company called iVal on to me. They said they would collect the laptop and decide what to do repair/replace.
This morning Parcelline came and said it was going to PowerPlay. Bit worried after reading this thread. Can't afford to be without the machine for 7 weeks.
Update: iVal and PowerPlay are the same company0 -
Direct line accepted my claim for my broken Laptop and it was collected by a courier service and sent to power play. I might add I had no info on them what so ever, no paperwork, nothing, so I removed the hard disk (With ALL my bank details on it) and sent the laptop on its way to power play.
I got a phone call from them on Mnday 12/05/08, that went to answer machine, (I was out in the garden) I tried phoning back and was on hold with out speaking to anyone for 1 hour 47 mins and 32 secs. I have since tried invain to phone them and I just get cut off after 1 min 6 sec.
Can some one tell me what sort of mickey mouse company is this???
I spoke to Direct Line and they say dont worry, (as if)
I am still trying to contact them to either get my laptop repiared or replaced.
After reading these posts I am increasingly concerned.
Any views anyone?

Are you aware that the hard disk becomes their property if you want to claim for the laptop?
Powerplay are never that bad to get through to. I dont believe you spent nearly two hours on hold to a company.0 -
Experienced similar problems with PowerPlay, 4 months and they still haven't resolved the replacement of my A/V amplifier. I seem to always get through on the phone quickly, however, their customer services took a nose-dive once I had paid my excess. They fail to return calls and have stopped responding to emails. I currently have an amplifier in the wrong colour, this is now being dealt with after-sales for some bizarre reason.
Does anyone know which agency we should complain to (since the insurance company has done their bit ok)?0
