anyone delt with powerplay direct, tesco home insuranceted them to asess, replace or repair my mac laptop. after 3 weeks of having my laptop they have done nothing, they cant do anything as its a mac, i told them this, they need my concent to send it away, they now have this as i have contacted them, they made no attempt to contact me even though they had 2 contact numbers (both with answerphones). they are now saying it will take up to 4 weeks to get a repair or replacement. so i will be without my mac for 7 weeks. i feel this is unaceptable as i struggle with a borrowed pc, i have stuff on disk i need for work and no way of printing it off.
anyone else had dealings with them

i have or should sat am having dealings with them. Zurich insurance accepted my stolen laptop claim but powerplay are refusing to replace the laptop without proof of purchase/specification. They have offered base model which is no use for me or comes to the specification of the stolen laptop. The laptop was a 50th birthday present from my family some 18mnths ago. got no proof of purchase and Dell can't find copy invoice from info i have given(my be incorrect as family can't remember exactly). I am at wits end. It seems they think i am a liar although police caught theft on video but had to let go as they could not prove indentity.video evidence and crime report but still no replacement???????????0

swampduck - the person who made the purchase from Dell should have received an e-mail with an Adobe PDF file attached. This would have the full order details and specification of the laptop on it.
Hopefully the email hasn't been deleted.0 -
Its not a case of saying you are a liar, its proving that you owned an item. If you insurance company said to them that they should replace it is not for the supplier to overrule- they often forget who they work for. Have you given them the exact specification? That might be the hold up.
Powerplay are one of the better electrical supplier IMO. If you want action, phone the claims dept every half day, by the end of three days they will be so annoyed with you calling that they kick PP's !!!!.0 -
this is quite scary, insurance company new i had mac laptop, but is was a pressie but pre owned from ebay..my laptop has now been subcontracted to apple , is it possible they may say its not mine as previous owner has not told apple - person who gave it me no longer has details for origional seller!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. sillyvixen - nothing to worry about really. Second hand sales / second users etc will be a common enough situation. Documents and settings in the machine will show you are the user.
Only problem may arise is if the original owner reported item as stolen. In this case, you may lose the machine as the law states you cannot pass title to a machine that you do not own. Upshot of that is the original owner never passed title to the thief who sold it on to you. The laptop reverts back to original owner.
Hopefully that doesn't apply here.0 -
My Lloyds insurance is underwritten by Zurich - both have been excellent in dealing with my laptop claim - HOWEVER, I was sent to Powerplay to have the laptop fixed (simple cracked screen on a Toshiba Laptop).
Powerplay had the laptop for 5 weeks, in that time I have called and got fobbed off, telling me they were waiting for parts! This morning I called Zurich for their help - something which I advise anyone to do -call your underwriter and they will get it sorted! Appparently Powerplay broke the laptop while fixing it!!
I have spoken to Powerplay, they have offered a replacement - A SAMSUNG! LOL!! For a TOSHIBA!! I don't think so! Told the bloke I gave him a Toshiba, I want a Toshiba back or send me to Zurich for a cheque so that I can buy my own - he found one as if by magic!! Had to upgrade us though!
New laptop will be here tomorrow. Lost data will cost £26.00 to get back, apparently although they broke it I am only entitled to a new laptop.
ANYWAY - moral is complain to the underwriter, they seem to have more clout with them.0 -
Recently I've spilled lager all over my Toshiba Equium M50-244 laptop, and luckily we're insured with DirectLine so they passed us onto Powerplay for a repair.
The excess is £100, which I'm prepared to pay.
Powerplay (well, Parceline actually) picked up the laptop yesterday and they phoned us today saying that it's beyond 'economical repair' so they will be sending me a brand spanking new Toshiba L40 for a £100
I must say, I cannot believe how quick they were at checking it
And their customer support team are very helpful too
I'm happy with them overall! Let's wait and see what happens when I receive the new one, however lol.0 -
