M&S charging for bag for plants to go in

You walked away and vow never to shop there again because of a 5p charge for a bag?
While they are not legally required to charge 5p for a bag for flowers, they can do so if they wish. M&S charged for bags before the 5p minimum came in. They are doing nothing wrong and you've made a scene over 5p...
You could probably looked around on the floor and picked up a coin to cover the cost. I've spent more than 5p worth of my time reading this thread, it would have therefore been more than 5p worth of your time writing it.

I do not shop at M&S these days but I got a load of their free heavy duty bags before the charges came in, what is great is that they swap them for a new one when they get damaged.
To be honest, since charging for bags came in you really have to expect to be chargedThanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !0 -
as you can't just put a new dress/shirt etc in a regular shopping bag ,so do need a special bag as part of the purchase.
Whenever we have bought clothes in M&S the cashier has just folded them carefully and put them in carrier bag be it one of theirs or our own and that was prior to the 5p levy.0 -
Handbags down boys
(teee hee - see what I did there...)I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.0 -
What special bags are we talking about here?
You mean a large bag for life, thats what i use.
A large carrier, as opposed to a general shopping bag. Clothing store bags tend to be larger than regular bags for life and aren't given out willy nilly as supermarket carriers were, so have little impact on the environment, so I think these should be free from the legislation. (Of course shops can charge if the wish to do so, but should not be obliged to, as their case differs from that of supermarkets.)0 -
Why what is the difference between a regular shopping bag or a special one?
Whenever we have bought clothes in M&S the cashier has just folded them carefully and put them in carrier bag be it one of theirs or our own and that was prior to the 5p levy.
By 'regular' I mean the bags for life we buy from supermarkets. (No, I don't have an original pile which cost nothing and can be replaced, as a kind someone stole mine from my trolley, while in Tesco.)0 -

I didn't know that other than supermarkets did bags for life, but I rarely shop at M&S, as it's inconvenient (town centre) and I'd be too tempted to buy Swiss rolls (one of the few items that is cheaper than elsewhere).0 -

Sorry but I dont see your point.
You pay for a carrier just like everywhere else.
Dont want to pay, then carry them. Its a (small)cost that needs factored into your shopping.0 -

So we are now in the realms of changing the law are we?
This thread could run and run.0 -

I guess it is subjective, Tesco used to give out bags that were biodegradable free of charge, I recycled them around the house, a "bag for life" was a thick bag you paid for.
When the legislation came in, Tesco changed the bag type to a less eco friendly bag that is not biodegradable, they saved a fortune on the bags they used to give free and if they give surplus money to charity it is our money they are giving not theirs.
This was a kind gesture by M&S to give away the heavy duty bags for life and then to honour that lifetime replacement..Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !0
