  • If you are unwilling to read the huge amount of information in here comparing Powershop with other suppliers, your Mum may be unwilling to purchase her electricity in advance by buying powerpacks that suit her situation.
  • I was offered the same packs today as Equites.

  • Oh. I don't remember seeing any discussion in here about Powershop Lite fixed 1 year tariff.

I was offered the same also. I cashed in all my small discounted powerpacks and got refunded what they were worth rather than what they were bought for which was decent of them. I now used them to buy higher discount and gained 8% min on each one.. I wonder if this would be the normal to refund at what they were worth rather than what they were purchased for as if that was case I would do that once a year and would for sure keep me beating top shopper..

Is this supplier any good? My mum can save £180 by switching to it. I'd like to know what people's opinions are first.
I can't fault them. You can also register for warm energy discount  (they taking details now for winter 2020/21) if you qualify because of health or age ect unlike some of the competive companies.. This will help many older customers who auto qualify and likely need that discounts most.

Great to see the Powershop thread still going!

I was with Powershop from April ‘18 to March ‘19; I only moved to EDF to jump onto a 2 year fix which was cheaper than Powershop’s renewal offer. I really like the way Powershop operates and will more than likely go back to them if they offer the best price when my EDF tariff ends next February.

Thinking ahead, I have a couple of questions:

Back when I joined, I was on the Easy Saver plan, this was later renamed and became Top Shopper. Even though it was a variable plan, Easy Saver rates were guaranteed not to change during the initial 12 month supply period, which obviously enabled Powershop to provide an accurate annual cost forecast plus achievable savings. Does this still apply to Top Shopper tariffs?

EDF fitted a SMETS 2 meter last October. SMETS 2 are pushed as being able to retain smart functions when switching supplier, and I was wondering if anyone else has joined Powershop with a similar set up? If I do return to Powershop, it would be great not to have to do daily reads as I did previously!

  • Hi dave-dph.   Glad to hear your thinking of returning though spring is not the most advantageous time to join as discounts are still lower in summer.
    1. Top Shopper is a variable plan and therefore not guaranteed though Powershop do seem to keep it for a year even when rates to new customers rise. I’ve not seen any report of anyone who bought all the power packs offered failing to at least achieve and usual beat Top Shopper rates over a full year.
    2. Even if your SMETS 2 meters don’t work you don’t need to send in daily readings, once or twice a month will do.

    Thanks tlcgrantham
I'm on economy 7 with an annual night time usage of 83% :)
Previously with Powershop I entered daily reads to keep my account as accurate as possible.
Looking at the website it does state that the baseline tariff is fixed for a year, so it seems to be the same set up as before.
I realise that the higher discount packs are made available to cover the winter months, but as you need to stay with Powershop for 12 months in order to achieve the Top Shopper rate, that isn't a problem.
I won't be looking to switch before the end of my tariff. My night time rate including VAT is currently 5.6p per kwh which I doubt can be beaten in the West Mids, plus I'd have to pay £35 exit fees. Today's figures based on my exact usage show Powershop as the cheapest by £49.44, but that would be an increase of £51.43 over my current tariff with EDF.
