I phoned Powershop a few weeks ago to enquire whether I should move to "Top Shopper 2019 Version 2". After checking my account I was advised that I am one of the very few who use Powershop as intended, and as a result, I should stay on "Baseline Elec 2019 Version 3".1

Very interesting and helpful. I am on "Top Shopper 2019 Version 2" for both gas and electric. I need to give them a call, right?
Do go armed with evidence that you are getting a worse deal so check their website to see what they are currently offering, ensure it offers a better deal, then ask for it by name.
Now, I complained to them whilst in the switching window up to the start of the new contract. That may explain why they switched me over without complaint.
Still a bit cynical though about how they had a "technical issue" that stopped me being offered the best tariff in the first place.1 -
Sweet Treats Special Pack
Now on the new tariff and the discounts improve
Lets see how long this continues.
20% discount for equivalent of 3 days worth of Electricity.1 -
Sweet Treats Special Pack 1 20% discount for 3 days and Pack2 5% discount for 3 days as I am dual fuel.
As Equites suggests check what Powershop are offering new customers with what you’re currently paying. If it’s more than new customers rates, you can change to it as 1. it’s a variable tariff with no exit fees.2. Powershop promise “Our cheapest prices are available to everyone who shops”0 -

I don't know the answer but what I do appears to be working when I check it out periodically, otherwise I would have switched by now. I buy all packs that look sensible in my situation, so have built up a credit buffer of £370 = 27 weeks of electricity.1

I only buy if discount is greater than 14%.
I refunded everything I had that was under 14% and then purchased only when greater than 14%.
Looking to the future, the Future packs for Aug, Sep and Oct are only showing a 14% discount , with November at 22%, yet the wholesale cost of electricity has fallen, makes me think that the Powershop Model is no longer my best bet.
Following suggestion from you I requested the best price and was told that "Top SHopper 2019v3" was the best price.
Methinks that's what they tell you when you ask.....
For me TS 2019v3 is £0.1389 per kWh and £0.2093 per day if I buy all the packs - currently I have a £218/ 7 weeks ahead balance.

Whenever I do an energy comparison (I use energyhelpline) Powershop appears quite a way down the list (I'm in the East Midlands.) I'm surprised they are still competitive for people posting on here. Having said that I would not hesitate to return if a suitable (lower cost) tariff became available. I'm currently on a fixed tariff with Yorkshire Energy: daily standing charge 19.632p, day units 12.642p, E7 units 8.273p.1

Interestingly, I just looked down the energyhelpline list of tariffs and Powershop's Fixed Term 12 Month 2020 Issue 6 is only 12.4% more expensive as the lite option than my Yorkshire Energy tariff . As I understand it (correct me if I'm wrong) everyone joins on 'Lite' these days then you can upgrade to 'Pro' at a later stage. Do you know - can someone who is familiar with the PS model join and go straight onto Pro? Also, taking into account the Powerpack discounts now available, is it reasonable to be able to achieve or beat a 12.4% discount on an annual basis these days? If so PS may be an option again for me.1

Hi Fewkeste, Great to see your posts again. I rejoined Powershop in March on Pro so you can go straight onto Pro. However your tariff would be Electric 2020 issue 1 I believe, so you might want to compare that with Y.E.’s Green Haworth. I can show you what it is for me as I’m in East Midlands region too on E7.Baseline. Top Shopper Discount Required
Day 20.1p kW 14.87p kw 26%
night 10.6p kW. 7.84p kw 26%
daily 23.0p. 19.53p 15%
To date I’m not quite getting sufficiently discounted packs to beat the Top Shopper. Though as you’ll remember they increase in the winter so I’m confident that, like Neil Sedaka, by next March I’ll beat Top Shopper rates again.0
