Having joined PS on the October 2018 dual fuel tariff in November last year, I am now just a single fuel customer, having switched my gas over to Utility Point. I am sure there are many other customers in a similar boat to myself regarding PS electricity - the current cheapest switch remains marginally more expensive (<1%) than remaining.
Given the superb CS at PS I shall be staying for the time being and a marginally cheaper switch is unlikely to sway my decision, especially given the savings to be made in November.
Once my first year is up I shall, of course, be much more likely to switch. The current PS Top Shopper tariff, if still available (albeit unlikely), would need average monthly discounts of 30% to beat the current best available tariff (Symbio) in my case. This is plausible over the winter months, even up to March at a pinch.
Due diligence should be observed, but as a fairly high user PS is currently still my best option,0 -
For December I was offered 2x4.5 day packs at 34% and 2x 2.5 day packs at 30%
For November it was 2x 2.5 day pack at 34% and 2x 4.5 day packs at 29%
I've bought these so I'm now 5 months ahead and my overall discount for 14 months from when I joined (October 2018) is 31.5% which keeps powershop as easily the cheapest supplier for me.0 -
That's not bad at all tlcgrantham. Those discounts would have kept me with powershop. When it worked for me it worked incredibly well. There comes a point when it stops working though0

Just got a quick quote off powershop. For my current usage baseline tariff is coming up as £558.83. Top shopper 441.40. Even with a 30% annual discount my bill would be £391.19. I don't think an annual discount of 30% is achievable but if it was then powershop still comes out as £12 dearer than what I'm paying now with symbio and that price is guaranteed0

Maybe you'll get the same when you return Tafrock at least to start with. With big winter discounts to come I'll be staying with Powershop at least till spring.0

But those big discounts are only off a small quantity of your overall bill. I only stayed for two years because initially top shopper rate was the best attainable and the discounts made that rate beatable. In my experience once my tariff altered (increased) on my 1st anniversary I was relying on banked high discount powerpacks once I'd used them the packs I was using were in the region of 19%. It's doubtful I will return unless that baseline rate becomes competitve again0

tlc - have you factored in what your new tariff will be after your first year is up....?
Symbio have a new lower July tariff. Breakeven for my electricity consumption relative to PS current Top Shopper tariff is now 31% monthly,0 -

My thoughts exactly. At one point I did wonder about returning for the higher discount winter months but with such a high baseline tariff, I'm not sure it would be worth it.
@tlcgrantham - what's your annual consumption? Are you dual fuel or electric only? Those discount % values look good but the value/number of days they cover is very poor.
If you are a low user then that's perhaps understandable; but if you're not, then that's not very good compared to the value of Future Packs offered in previous years.0 -
My first anniversary with Powershop has just passed and with it I'm getting a slightly different range of powerpacks compared to the first year.
This month been offered the following...
1 x Little Extra Pack @ 41% off - equivalent to 4 days power
1 x Little Extra Pack @ 21.5% off - equivalent to 3 days power
1 x Simple Saver @ 19.4% off - equivalent to 3 days power
1 x Jumbo @ 8.2% off - equivalent to 7 days power
The second Little Extra Pack is a new feature for my account at least (I am single fuel, electric).
For December been offered...
2 x December Future Pack @ 30% off - equivalent in total to 12 days power
The discount for December is less than that offered for November - discount there is 34% for a total equivalent of, again, 12 days power.0 -

Hi DocFrog.
Good suggestion. From October my new tariff could be the Baseline version 3. If so I would need an average discount over the year of 29% to beat the cheapest supplier for my use Yorkshire energy. Top shopper discount would give me 26.3% . As l'm getting 31.5%overall including the first 2months of my second year I'm happy to stay with Powershop.0
