Modest discount of 23.1% £7.03 worth £9.15. Anybody got a better pack offer?0
-
Yes, that's correct - they use any powerpacks bought up to the point that they produce the statement.
So you are saying that we have to wait for our bills to be produced before we can buy any packs as the one's bought after your billing date can be used for the previous month?
Well that is a new for me as i have checked my past bills and none of the packs that i have bought after the billing date have been used for that month and if the one's that i did buy were higher % discount. The one they used for May/June was 33% and i have packs that were from last year that were used this time and they were not May/June specific and they were less % discount.
Thank you for setting me straight on this issue and at least it may help other users how have this happen to them.0 -
You don't have to wait for your bill to be produced to buy any new packs that are available. They'll either be used against your current billing period or future ones, depending on their discount. Powershop is not that different to other energy providers where you build up a credit and have your monthly bills deducted from it. The main difference is that you build up the credit at a discount with Powershop.
You'll notice when your review date (billing date) comes around, it will start moving on each day, extending the current billing period, until your bill is produced. Any packs bought during those days will be offset against the bill if their discount is high enough. When the bill is produced, the review date 'jumps back' to what it should be. It happened to me a few times when I was with Powershop.0 -

I know you can buy packs when i need to but what i do not understand is that the bill dated 5/05 to 4/06 and has the number days standing charge as the bill dates has a powerpack that i bought on the 6th June used in that months bill that was 2 days after i had bought it. I thought the 4/06 was the last day and the 5/06 becomes the start of my new billing date.
Well i will now know that if i see big discounted pack to buy it after i have got my latest monthly bill so i doesn't happen again.0 -
4/06 is the official last day but the last day moves on each day until your bill is produced, then it moves back to the official day. I don't see why it really matters whether the pack is used that month or the next one, as the lower discount ones that are displaced by it will roll over anyway...0

You are correct, of course, Tafrock; I cannot switch just my electricity supplier away from PS. A schoolboy error on my part, but I appreciate your swift advice,
I switched my gas instead, moving to my cheapest available supplier - in my case Utility Point. The tariff I obtained will provide my gas for marginally more than PS Top Shopper would until my contract expires in November. However, I also received a £25 referral bonus from Utility Point and locked in a fixed rate for 15 months at just 0.08p/kWh above my current TS rate with a !0% reduction in my standing charge.
Given PS's current TS rates, my savings from November onward with UP will be significant, making my decision to move a formality.
As Tafrock also confirmed, I was indeed able to retain my accumulated PPs, notably those for November. These will guarantee a minimal discount of 31% for my final month's electricity should I keep PS as my supplier. The advantage over switching is small so I shall keep this option open.

Like so many others on this thread, I too have been very impressed by the customer service at PS and replied to their email saying as much, alongside my explanation for switching.0 -
That's exactly what I did when I left docfrog. They were also excellent during my leaving process messaging me regularly to inform me of progress. I looked at utility point a year ago and nearly left to go there. But I still had plenty of credit left so stayed with powershop until April this year. My gas is locked in with zog energy until April 2020 at a rate that can't be beaten.
I feel I made the right decision ditching powershop when I did but it wasn't a decision I came to lightly. If baseline rates start decreasing I would return but at moment they are so high that the discount needed to achieve top shopper rates is difficult to attain. Even then top shopper rates are 18th in my best buy charts some 50 or 60 pounds a year dearer than competitors0 -

2.499p/kWhr?0 -
2.9733p per kWh and 10.5p standing charge. That's what my gas costs. Who are you paying 2.499 with talldave. I can't find it that cheap as a single fuel0
