I also use the android app and follow Powershop on Facebook and twitter.
Thankfully they don't post loads of irrelevant nonsense, just the packs when they're available so that helps to not miss those that are only available for a few days.
I don't find I need to keep logging in to the account daily to check for packs, the notifications seem to work well for me. I do check in once a month for the monthly packs and to give a meter reading.0 -
Having joined PS on their dual fuel October 2018 tariff as a fairly high user, I had a good run with monthly discounts until May this year. Previously average monthly discounts varied between 30.9% and 41.9%, but May was just 22.9% - although for a much lower usage.
Despite this, the nearest dual fuel supplier would still have been 2% more expensive! However, separate gas and electricity suppliers could have yielded a slight reduction as well as locking in rates for a year or more.
Tomorrow I shall be asking PS CS what would happen to my PowerPacks (I have £150+ at average 31% in November futures) if I were to switch just electricity to another supplier.
It might just work out better than switching both - updates to follow.0 -
You won't be able to do that docfrog. Powershop do electricity only or duel fuel. You can't just have gas. I never found their gas competitve. I'm with zog for gas on an incredible 2 year fix. If you convert to electricity only your packs will remain for you to use for electricity. Of course you can always ask for packs to be refunded if you feel you have too much credit. Powershop always refunded when I requested refunds0

I'm staying in to my third year, it's still working for me, but does feel less 'discounted' than in the first year.......
By this do you mean that since the end of the first year, you still have the best (cheapest) deal?
That seems the only reason to work hard at it (some ex customers look to have been sending almost daily readings which looks hard work, but your monthly reads does look ok!)0 -
I was sending daily reads. It's not necessary but I wanted to keep accurate records of my usage. Not really hard work though. Takes 5 minutes at most. Powershop was the best deal for me despite the plunging discounts until April this year0

Yes, over the second year I've achieved an average discount of 29.7%, and that has provided a lower cost than I'm aware of being available elsewhere.
Powershop had estimated at the beginning of that period I could save £117.43 by buying the discounted power packs, in reality I saved £174.14.
I don't think you have to work hard to make it work, just log in once a month, give a meter reading, buy the worthwhile packs that have arrived that month and thats about it, then use the notifications on the app, or twitter or FB to get the occasional packs that are only available for a few days. With the app its a quick tap to buy them as and when you get the notification.
For some of course thats too much to do, but it it's not hard work or time consuming and it does keep you in touch with what you're spending and using.
And it's currently giving me the best price I can get!
Adding in things like keeping a spreadsheet just help you track whether you have actually got the best deal at any given point in time, but you can just use the info on Powershop account.0 -
It has to be said the Info powershop provide you with is second to none. One thing I miss now I'm with symbio is the array of graphs, charts and other relevant info that powershop supply. If costs came down I would return but it won't be for a while. I'm on a 12 month tariff with symbio but due to changes in terms and conditions that's has been extended to a 14 month deal. So for 14 months i am assured of electricity at the lowest price I could find. No more pack anxiety.0

Just checked my account and the "high" discount offering this month were....
Little Extra Pack - 41% - 4 days worth
Simple Saver - 19.4% - 4 days worth
November Future Pack - 34% - 12 days worth of power in total
The Jumbo Pack is really a mouse in terms of discount as only 8.2% for 6 days worth of power.
Been with Powershop since end June 2018.
At least Powershop reporting options are thorough - allows you to easily see how the average unit price has risen consistently all year even with religious buying of all the high discount packs..
Dec 18 = 10.61 p/unit
Jan 19 = 11.37
Feb 19 = 11.42
Mar 19 = 12.05
Apr 19 = 13.20
May 19 = 15.130 -
I am not sure if anybody else has had this issue with a powerpack being used after their bill date.
My bill date is 4th of every month and very late last night i bought a simple saver pack along with 2 other packs.
Today i get the bill from May to 4th June and the pack i bought last night has been used in that bill.
Is that correct as i thought it was only packs bought before the billing date can be used.
It was a pack with a high % deduction if that makes any difference.0 -
Yes, that's correct - they use any powerpacks bought up to the point that they produce the statement.0
