Sorry things are tough at the moment and I agree the person should have gone to specsavers. I hope the relative's surgery has gone well today and that will be a load off your mind.
I'll send a gentle kick up the rear your way if you'll return the favour.

Glad the op went well.
Be gentle on yourself. Don’t look at the big picture of what needs sorting. Little and often is better than a massive sorting stint and putting yourself off 👍
Dont let the comment put you off….use it to your advantage. Think they should have gone to Specsavers.January spends - £587.585 -

Well, it looks like weeks are evaporating and here we are heading towards May. My weekly weigh in showed no change but that was over the past two weeks. Enough time to rein in the chocoholic tendencies. There is still outstanding work to be cleared and I’m annoyed that I haven’t done more. That said, we have managed to watch four series of Strike. I’d say it’s worth the watch.
There also remains lots of housework to be done though hopefully the return of some good weather will help the laundry situation. On money news, the annual car insurance was paid by credit card to be cleared end of May. Jan to April gas bill goes out tomorrow and our rates bill has hit. DH’s birthday is also in May and hopefully the building work will complete then too. Hall stairs and landing will then need redecorated but may wait.I finally got feedback from hmrc via my mp. It turns out that they hadn’t processed info provided to them last May and this has now happened reducing what they owe me by 90%. It can just go towards my July payment. Why can’t these people just do what they get paid to do without contact from an MP?
on other news, our bear is starting to make herself more at home. She will now chase a ball but not bring it back and still has virtually no recall. She is so lovely and, despite his refusal to see and/or acknowledge, is doing wonders for dh’s mental health whereas mine is still erratic. She did force the clearing out of old magazines from a rack and prompted addressing a storage box in the bedroom. Some stuff dumped, some recycled and some waiting with the magazine rack to go to the charity shop. Interestingly, it contained an undated list of big ticket to dos. I reckon it was probably from 5-6 years ago and it was gratifying to see how many been cleared.Yesterday we treated ourselves to lunch at a local cafe and, after picking up dog food, brought some ice cream home to be eaten in front of tv. Today there’s a list to be worked through and more lists to be constructed. I need to establish a better discipline as I’d gotten out of the way of drawing up lists instead I was relying on random notes that were invariably mislaid.

That sounds like a great excuse to crack out a pretty new notebook to me.
Lovely that you had progressed on the big ticket list you found though. I have to stop and look back every so often when I feel overwhelmed to remind myself of just how much we did together, and how much I have done in the last six months. It is easy to lose sight of it and unjustly criticise yourself. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

I love Strike too, it's well cast and true to the books.
Our dog never brings the ball back either.
