Thanks everyone. One of the problems is that I have a new accounts package in place that I haven’t gotten used to yet. The week continued to be busy and yesterday I shut down. Had a lazy non work day finished off with a trip to the cinema with dh and dd. Both popcorn and subsequently ice cream were consumed yet my weekly discussion with mr wii showed a 1 lb weightloss back to the figure not previously updated in my sig. my sig will need updated next week as, with some money shuffling, we will meet our 25% target on pb. My next to aim for would typically be a third but I think that may take too long so I’ll maybe go for 30%.At the minute funds are a bit uncertain as there’s a tax issue to be desnagged and I won’t feel comfortable committing funds to anything until that is sorted. That said, the garage door guy phoned yesterday and is coming for a look today. Fingers crossed for a repair. If a replacement is needed, it will be an upgrade on the bargain bucket one bought previously. That was 20 years ago or more so I’ve no idea what likely costs will be.
in other news, we got the date of ds’s long awaited graduation confirmed. Apparently his dad and wife have already gotten tickets. This may sound selfish but he contributed nothing to any of this but is willing to swan in at the end. I still feel so much anger over how he treats his children that there is no way I could sit down at a meal with him. He’s the type who would make a big show of picking up a tab while never offering financial support over the six years. Some diary juggling will be needed to arrange a celebration.
today I am not meeting my friend for coffee, she is busy elsewhere. Instead, I will clear an outstanding piece of work and start on my accounts.I know if I get these two things done, it will literally be a weight lifted. I’ve also agreed to make stew which will feed me and dd until her next trip to GB on Wednesday morning.Today I am grateful for

Well done to your DS! You must be proud of him. And he's got your brains.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Well done to ds. Hope you manage to enjoy the day despite his dad showing up. A friend of my dd’s spent the day dashing from one side of The Albert Hall (London Uni) where his mum sat…spent some time with her then dashed to the other side to keep his dad happy. We really felt for him as he looked so stressed trying to satisfy everyone. I don’t think he enjoyed his day at all. It was such a shame they couldn’t bury the hatchet for the day…..but knowing the couple would have probably buried it in each others head 😳
Hope the tax issue is resolved quickly so that you can sort finances out.January spends - £587.582 -
Glad to see others who understand the issue with the graduation. DD will be there, she missed her last 2 due to covid, so that will take pressure off ds to split himself between us. My thinking is to leave the ex to do dinner that night and we take the not so little posse out the following day. It’ll mean an extra night in London which will cost but if I get my finger out and invoicing up to date, it can be covered. It’s also my birthday later that week so the cost of that meal out can go into the pot. This is a pretty big deal for everyone as, at 19, ds headed to uni in London in a blaze of glory with academic and sporting excellence awards. He then spent 4 years trying to complete first year while bouncing back and forwards with home. Now, in his mid 30s, he has finally completed a 6 year ou course gaining a first. Work wise, it will have a limited impact as he is well beyond graduate entry level but I think he needed it for his own self esteem. He also picked up more than £20k student debt that people may remember, we were able to clear leaving him currently more than halfway through paying us back which is great since my income fluctuates.Anyway, on other news, garage door has been fixed. It looks a bit battered but I think that may have been me sometimes driving into it. Apart from that, it’s been a work focused week with a few early starts. Today, I’m staying close to home as the NI deal has resulted in road closures being planned by those opposed to any deal. I’m quite apolitical but so glad that the horse trading is over for now and that we may have a government in place again. Decisions need to be made.
right, lots to do. Today I am grateful for

Brilliant achievement for DS. My degrees are through OU, a huge amount of self motivation is needed!
It's good that you might finally have a government again.
