I agree, I get so much more done when there's a deadline.  Good luck with the sort out.

It will be hard work this week but you will be able to sit back and appreciate it when it's done. Perhaps your sister would kindly house a few storage boxes as her contribution? :) Especially if there are delicate things or files that mustn't wander, or some other good reason for having them somewhere completely separate.

    4lbs is fantastic!

I'm another who would have left the old carpet down! However, getting it out will be a dusty job I expect, because it might shed fibre, so it's probably best gone.

I suspect you are actually in my house - 2 rooms belonging to grown children into which other stuff has migrated. Describes us well, though I don't expect anywhere is as full as DD's old room.

No I’d have to get rid of the carpet. There’s no saying the carpet level would be the same as the old and could leave an unpainted strip around the edge. This happened to a friend of mine and once I’d noticed it - I couldn’t unsee it…..neither could she.  In the end we went around with a tiny paintbrush sorting it out 😂 It was a right faff 😏
