So two bombshells hit yesterday work wise but that’s what they are. Work. I’m trying not to let them be anywhere other than work. I did my expenses for last month and paid me. I transferred 10% of my premium bond win to ds after he phoned. I was withholding pending proof of life! I also made a £2.83 tt to the mortgage. I am consciously not paying it down but am happy to do the occasional tt when I’m logged in. The quarterly interest goes on at the end of the month so it’ll be August before I break the £60k barrier. I’m not sure if I reported that I cashed out a £10 Amazon voucher from sb in the past week. That brings me to £30 towards my month 3 £50 savings increase in the offset fund. I’d love to get another £20 from somewhere by month end as that’d give me 6 months to generate the remaining 3 month increase.Anyhow, spoke to ds yesterday and threatened him with a thunderbolt if he fails to send his granny a birthday card. DD always remembers. In addition I managed to pick up the jars of marmalade that my mother favours as part of her birthday present.Right I need to get moving as I have work and then this evening I am starting to do the prep of home made stuff to go to mother.

I'm sorry to hear about the bombshells. As you say, they're work - but it must have an impact.
I love the comment on withholding from DS pending proof of life. Been there myself. He'd better remember that card for your Mum.
I hope she has a lovely birthday. Perfect timing for the loosening of restrictions.

well, the birthday has been and gone. The homemade things were perfect even the tablet which only works about twenty per cent of the time. That said, she didn’t even look at the contents of her hamper and only made a hello stranger sarky comment. She wouldn’t eat anything bar a piece of shortbread that the chef made for me. This included the afternoon tea that one of my sisters had arranged to have delivered. She did get multiple bunches of flowers but told one sister to take home the ones her son had sent. My mother is a disagreeable old woman. I’m not sure why I expected anything else on her birthday. Interestingly, DS’s card arrived but there was no sign of one from DD. It may just not have been apparent. The plus side of yesterday was that there appears to be no change health wise.On other news, we have been unable to get in touch with our vet and the furry one has a cauliflower wart that has discoloured. We have managed to get an appointment for next week at an alternative vet though I really would prefer it to be with the vet who had previously seen the wart.Money wise, the budget has been blown. Not only did I have the shortbread ingredients to buy, it seemed like there was a hamper addition each time I went to a shop plus something for us. In addition, I have booked us an overnight stay in a lovely hotel for the July bank holiday here. As they have just reopened, we got the bank holiday night for the standard mid week break price plus, the day we check out we are using an afternoon tea voucher that was a Christmas present. I also purchased a voucher for a mid week stay as a gift for my brother’s ruby wedding anniversary. Again, not in the budget but he is so good too me and mine, once the idea occurred to me, I couldn’t not do it.Right, today I need to go in for 2 hours so am timing it around giving the chef a lift. I therefore need to get going.
today I am grateful for

Fingers crossed the dog's wart is nothing to worry about.
Glad your mother's life was celebrated. I bet she enjoyed it even if she didn't show it.If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

She doesn't sound the easy sort.
You did well though, your attention to her hamper is proof you put a lot of thought into it.
I hope the dog gets treatment soon. Worrying for you. The hotel will be good to look forward to though!

The two hours in work stretched to four but they were fruitful and a doggy bag was provided that will keep the furry one happy for a few days. Dh then advised of a looming crisis so a shop was visited and teabags were purchased on my way home. Despite having the end space closest to the shop, I got totally drenched getting back to the car. I changed into pjs when I got home and we pretty much vegged in front of the telly watching stuff we had recorded but not gotten around to watching. Dinner was just snacky with ham on toast but exactly what was needed. The weather has continued to blow a storm so we can hopefully avoid going too far today. I love sitting snugly indoors with a window open listening to the wind and the rain but that’s normally more appropriate to the end of September or even early March.I need to report a weight gain that requires the update of my signature. I feel I got off lightly. Today I am grateful for
