If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

  • Happy new year to you all. I have decided that this is the year when tolerations become no more and when affordable feel good things become nearly routine in that they are no longer one offs but regular planned for items.

I worked yesterday and today will be working on what I need done. This may be some client work, it will be an application due in on Friday and maybe house and or business stuff. My over riding aim this year is to do something every day that makes the next day better or easier. Not quite sure how that will work but I’m hoping that a review of 2019 may provide some insight. I am however determined to get back to being overweight by the end of January. I’m about 3 pounds away and while I know bmi is not the be all and end all, seeing that word rather than obese on my weekly weigh in makes me happy.

Right I’m away to ponder and to maybe not walk past things but to do what needs done.

    Today I am grateful for
A relatively dry day, I will spend at least half an hour in the garden
An undisturbed nye, there was a staffing questionmark
One item to the charity shop bag yesterday

Mostly I am grateful for the support, encouragement and feedback on here. I hope you all have some idea just how much I appreciate it

    Happy New Year!

I think you should get shares in that airport (if such things exist): you could make your fortune.

Your mention of 'essentials/luxuries' spending vividly brought back memories of a situation DH and I once found ourselves in when I said longingly how much I missed having K!tkats. DH said quietly that he hadn't realised I wasn't treating myself and he had something like that as part of his lunch everyday at work and maybe I should allow them to myself too. I'm not saying that reflects your situation as your DH may be fully aware of what you do and don't allow yourself but maybe you could list the things each of you has as 'extras' and bring your level up to his? After all you are earning the money and I think if we put everything into the future (IYSWIM) when all we really have is now, then we will never enjoy those things as when we are older we still won't give ourselves permission. If the spending is getting too high by doing this then of course the two of you need to agree one or two things each of you could cut back on - everyone's idea on what's a necessity is different so they don't have to be the same things for both of you... and his giving those things as gifts might mean various things - has he completely not seen what's going on (possible) or does he think you should have them but can't think how else to give them to you? Or is he just buying token presents because he doesn't know what to get you?

    End of speech. :o

Hope you are having beautiful weather as we are and can get some sunshine today. :)

I've been doing this too inod! Much better to unclog and unclutter the tech!. I'm gong to go through my emails over the next couple of days and delete those I don't need and set up new folders for those I want to keep. I'm very organised with my tech in work so this should really filter to my personal emails as well!

  • I've also unsubscribed from a lot of emails too to de-clutter my inbox. I still get lots of dodgy ones but it's best to ignore those.

  • Yesterday I did not go to the client but I did do some client work. There are some set in stone targets looming that will require attention. I also worked on completing a job application that is due in tomorrow. I’m not sure if that’s a route I want to follow but I may not even make it through the selection process but if I don’t submit, I’m ruling myself out.

I also did about 45 mins in the garden. Big thing was getting a plant whose pot had broken into another pot. Our garden table is in bits and beyond repair. The question is will we bother to replace it given how little use it gets. I’m toying with the idea of a collapsible plastic one instead. Still, that is a pondering for when we have clarity of current finances. For this, I need to pay myself but this requires receipts that I have left at the client. Getting these is a task for today.

Last night’s dinner was from leftovers and the freezer which was good. Gaps are starting to appear in the fridge. There are still too many nice things though. I’m not sure what’s for tonight but vegetables are needed. We have not consumed enough recently and this is reflected in my skin.

Yesterday I made use of one of my many notebooks and a large wallet type thing to identify the fruits of decluttering. I have more than thirty pens going to my client and five things went to bin and to recycling. I am hoping to achieve 2020 items leaving the house. I’d love some of these to bring in some pennies. On other news, I got word from a consignment shop that they have €40 to be picked up. I didn’t think that I had any items left with them so this is a pleasant surprise.
Right, I really need to get motoring esp as today is dh’s first day back in a week and a half and he’s keen to put structure on the work mountain that will have accrued.

    Today I am grateful for
DH who yesterday structured my work emails into folders
Unexpected earnings from the consignment shop
A good start with the application

I think it must be something in the air... I've been unsubscribing from various senders too.

You are inspiring me to do some garden work while it's still dry. We have lots of overgrown tatty stuff and if I can neaten things up I can make plans to grow some veg.

All the best for the job application. :)
