  • So Christmas has been and gone. Many thanks to all for the good wishes posted here and throughout the forum. Work is starting on the year end report which could most probably be summed up as some progress but could do better. The two absolutes to report are that my offset fund crept just above the £1k mark, I got the pass book marked up last week and my weight according to mr wii this morning is up a pound to 13 st 6 lb. I have been one of those impacted by the bank system issue so don’t have accurate figures for mortgage etc. At present.

The Christmas break was a bit manic. Today my two and their 2 guests return to their real lives and to work tomorrow. It bothers me how little I see them generally and all the old resentments relating to their father raise their heads too. He continues to act mr wonderful quite often at a cost to me and I do not wish to upset them by pointing this out to them so sit, seethe and offload onto dh who cannot understand how two adults cannot see his behaviour for what it is.

  • I know beanie that it’s just how things are. I just take comfort that it’s a question of circumstances rather than fractured relationships. I also am glad that they are independent of thought. One of my sisters has three children who are aged plus and minus two years of my two. She relays stuff to me about their lives that I would not have been happy with my partner sharing with their mum. I’m just glad that my two are living their lives but I wish I got to see them more often. Alternatively if they have no intention of ever returning home, I wish they would clear their belongings from the house!

So, mse broadcast was interrupted for the Sunday morning breakfast.
The dog’s reduced mobility was an ongoing topic of conversation over the break. We aren’t as aware seeing her every day. However, dh was very patient with those whose responsibility she should be when they were suggesting how things should be done. He’s the one dealing with their pet day to day. This includes sorting out medicines etc

We had our two guests invited by ds for Christmas. They do not get on well, he was totally oblivious of this fact. It did not make for the most harmonious of times but I dropped one to the airport at six this morning and the other goes with ds at 4 today. DD flies back at 10 this evening but will return next weekend to take down the decorations on the 6th.

I spent a day and a half at the client and got progress on two matters. Today I am committed to developing a to do list. This will include setting diary entries to issue invoices etc.

I had a realisation recently from both recent experience and from reading these diaries. When I short change myself to the benefit of others ( who are quite often oblivious) I and up feeling resentful. This was highlighted by dh buying me stuff as a Christmas present that he spends his own money on as day to day essentials. I’m probably not explaining this well. I have decided though to look at day to day stuff that I skimp on but that enhance my life and cost these out. I am then going to branch with him the disparity in how these are funded for the two of us. I hate having these conversations but I also hate feeling horrible when the consequences of not doing this hits me.

So over the next few days I need a blueprint for the next year.
    Today I am grateful for

I think it's great that you've raised happy, independent children. It's a shame that you don't see them more often, and I think it really reflects well on you as a decent person of how you keep your thoughts about their father to yourself.

I agree that you should not be depriving yourself of stuff that DH is buying as standard. Hope you have a positive conversation about it :)

  • A bit worried about the dog here please update...

You work very hard and the small pleasures are important. Glad you are finding a way to make life nicer.

  • The furry fiend still runs the household but sleeps a lot and moves stiffly though the pain meds mean that she is back to climbing onto beds which had been a bit beyond her. She still runs and jumps to get a ball but has a rest before returning it to be thrown again. The tail continues to wag a lot and her eyes are bright. It’s an inevitable decline but she will be with us until pain cannot be managed. DS had not been home since the August bank holiday weekend so was a bit shocked. This was similar to his reaction to my mother who is 89. He believes that things will remain as they were in his absence!

Discussion was not had yesterday as I had 3 airport runs from 6 in the morning to 9 last night. Today DH is coming to a client with me as there is a tricky matter that he may be able to help with.
I did however kon mari my jewellery box. Some items to dd, 1 to be disposed off possibly to gain a few pennies and one to be altered. There is another item in need of repair but this will require bigger spends.

Today was our recycling and food waste collection day so the contents of the fridge were reviewed and meals were from the contents. There were a few things that had to go but happily not many.
Our recycling bins were changed recently and hold a lot less. We already have stuff to go in for next week’s collection. In addition to the jewellery items, I earmarked one brochure to go.

Right, need to get going and face the client. Today I am grateful for
    Safe travels
    A happy

I feel for you as it's hard sometimes when your children live far away. My DD doesn't live close and I still miss her, although I'm lucky that I get to see her sporadically.
