  • I’m now at the point where it’s not nearly long enough! I’m running about like the proverbial headless chick. However dog is happily off on her holidays so most important bit is done.
Saturday was a bit frantic as I got a bag to charity shop, went to sainsbugs to take advantage of an offer, got loads more offers so ended up shopping. Got holiday money, got cheque lodged. Went to t3sco to but £40 of client stuff. They had a half price offer on another range which will be needed pre Christmas so £178 on the credit card. I will be paid before the statement is due.
Other bits and pieces were done and I spent a number of hours with the client yesterday. Laundry is as up to date as it can be and I’m now about to tackle my office for 20 mins as our cleaning lady comes in today so if I get floor and surfaces sorted, she will dust and hoover.
Yesterday I asked dh and he agreed that we could transfer £100 to ds to help the cost of the post theft repairs to his motorbike. Not our responsibility I know but I’m due the extra £125 compensation from the bank so that’s a good home for it.

  • Thanks all. I have now been home just over a week and have a stinking cold. The break was good though dh had to make use of our travel insurance when one of his legs stopped working. He was given pain relief and anti inflammatories and is sufficiently well recovered not to have made a GP appointment. The weather was miserable which quite literally put a dampener on things but it was good to get away.
Things are now fully back to normal as the furry faced one returned yesterday. While she creates work, primarily for dh, it’s so good to have her here

  • So, a brief interruption now back to finish off the update.

Too much money was spent on the holiday but little to no tat was bought. Somethings purchased weren’t needed right now but may have been within the next year. I also managed to get dh’s Christmas gift. This was something that he wouldn’t have admitted to wanting except that it had such a price reduction. It cost a bit more than the alternative he was asking for but it’s actually what he wants rather than what he would settle for so I was glad about that. The credit card bill is high but doesn’t need paid until January and we will be close to covering it then provided nothing untoward happens. Worst case scenario, we will take from the emergency fund as dd is due to payback the £2k borrowed by the end of January so we should be ok. :)

Work wise there is a lot to be done. Last week I had my first engagement with a new client that went well. It’s not a big job but it’s in a new sector. Plus the recurring client is once again sucking the life blood. It is humbling though to see the donations being made to this charity in the run up to Christmas. People are being so generous plus we have a government grant per service user to be spent on Christmas. I’m having so much fun finding deals that give us the best return for this money. I really want to have enough left for a small gift token for each. For some of them, this will allow them to buy tokens for family members that they wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford.
On Thursday however, I gave myself a half day off and met a friend for lunch and a pootle round the shops. I paid for lunch, a truly amazing Christmas dinner and she rewarded me with her canteen’s speciality that I adore.

Neither of us spent much but it was so good just to take the time out. This is something that I need to get better at.

While I was away, the £125 compensation was paid from the post office for the savings fiasco. I also won a £5 on the ad bonus on free postcode lottery and on fri got the email advising of a £25 win from premium bonds so ds is owed £2.50. I have also cashed out just over £20 from pa. I’m really dreading having to cash in the premium bonds to pay my tax bill!

Right, I need to get a move on as there’s lots and lots to do.

    Today I am grateful for
The reality check that I get from the diaries here, it puts first world problems into context
The return of a healthy furry one

Well done on all those 'small wins'! Not so small when added together. :)
