I really like the idea of being able to face the world once your feet are good! Same process, possibly, as washing your hair or shaving your legs - amazing how much stronger it makes you feel. Ditto clean clothes.

I hope you now feel duly pampered and things are starting to form into some sort of order. Do written lists help? Short ones, I mean. Three things to do today or some such.

I am off to wash my hair and face the day as well: hope you have a good weekend. :)

Hello INOD, I have followed your diary for a while but I have hesitated to join in - you touched on this last week so you will understand my reasons why. Whilst I may not have contributed I have been rooting for you from the sidelines.
My reason for posting now is because of today’s post and your comment on wanting a plan. I recall a while ago you wrote a manifesto which I thought was a great idea and I adopted something similar. I spent time writing a plan and promised myself I would update it regularly.
Well I didn’t make much progress, so I didn’t bother with updates – there seemed little point in admitting my failure. Time went on and I realised that if I didn’t put the effort into ‘me’ no once else would. I then began to take my plan more seriously and looked at it regularly to help keep me focused.
I am now a couple of years into a 5 year plan. The latter years are vague as I concentrate on each year – just bullet points listing what I’d like to achieve / change. It’s not set in stone and I don’t spend hours on it as it has to fit in with the time available or it becomes a chore.
Deciding to write a plan has helped me make changes to my life and this is all down to you and your manifesto so I wanted to say thank you.
I would say make a plan, keep it in mind and refer back to it regularly. It helped me and kept me focussed on doing more of the things I wanted.
    Good luck, Elnora
  • so, here goes my manifesto. i'm going to place on my desktop to prompt me to action every day. It will also hopefully inform how I live my life though I know it needs broken down into babysteps. if I waited for that to be done, the list would never make it to here. The aim is to provide a monthly update under each heading. All comments, criticisms or requests for clarification welcome!
    I want:
    · A well maintained, clean clutterfree house
    · To be fit and healthy
    · My family to be fit and healthy
    · To be with people I like
    · To be financially secure
    · To welcome friends into our home without worry
    · Hygge
    · To have nothing in my house that I do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.
    · Weekends away
    · Holidays
    · To look good
    · To only have clothes that make me feel good
    · To stop being afraid of people and experiences
    · To have provision for an enjoyable retirement
    · To identify and eradicate tolerations
    · An emergency fund
    · A refresh fund to replace things with a finite life
    · To engage with organisations who disappoint

Elnora, thanks for delurking. I’d actually forgotten about this. I did put it on my desktop but then as my desk top got too cluttered, it went into a folder called “to be tidied”. We can all guess how that worked out.

This weekend I did very little. I didn’t even move my laptop from its bag. I tried that happiness discussion with dh but he’s apparently happy as we are so there’s no need for plans or worry. I really need to revisit my manifesto. There’s still a long way to go. But, it’s all going to wait for ten or twelve days until I’ve had my London break and hopefully have a functioning kitchen. In the meantime, sleep beckons.

  • In a freaky coincidence I got an e mail I sent myself from Christmas day when I was feeling very low - tho the email is very positive, a reminder of my new year resolutions. Not going badly..... Mine have been saved to my phone as a things to do list which has helped. But am reaffirming things.

Have a good week, I couldn't bear having the bathroom put in, a kitchen seems hellish.

    Nevertheless she persisted.

Sometimes it feels like you're treading water and going round in circles but when you look back you can see how far you've come. I think you've made great progress on some of the points on your manifesto.

  • Thanks Elnora. I think the big thing has been the health improvement evidenced by the drug reduction. That plus the emergency fund at the level that I’m comfortable with although it may dip in the next month but that’ll be only temporary.

This week will be flat out workwise but I am getting stuff done which is good. The walls in the kitchen are drying, slowly but they are drying. I’m hoping that it will all be done by the time we get home next Monday. The following weekend is a bank holiday weekend over here so I’m hoping we can use that to get things back to where they need to be although I may go on site. I find it easier to be at the client when the manager isn’t. He was off yesterday and will be off today too.

Yesterday I squeezed in a meeting with another client and that went well. There could be a tiny bit more work to come which would be good. We went out for dinner straight after work to a place we’ve intended to go back to. We spent more than we normally would but I’m putting it down to kitchen costs as we wouldn’t have eaten out if we had a functioning kitchen. Today I updated my sig to reflect the weight gain over the past two weeks. This is stopping now. I will update it again this week when the savings have increased and the mortgage has gone out. I see the premium bond draw has happened this month. Fingers crossed for an email in the next few days. In the meantime, I will keep checking the free post code lottery every day.

    Today I am grateful for
    Babysteps in the right direction
Meeting up with a friend to look forward to
    Positive feedback

Yes the improved health is the biggie but I think you are making big steps in the right direction (rather than baby steps) and have come a long way since you wrote your manifesto. I hope you don’t mind me commenting but as an outsider this is how I see it.

You completed the BSD which improved your blood sugar readings and you were able to reduce your medication.
You were happy that you lost weight
You have commented on your appearance and took steps to address the areas where you weren’t happy, so you are looking after yourself
You have been decluttering - I assume you will sort through your clothes and get rid of those you dislike.

These are all steps towards these points:
    • To be fit and healthy
    • To look good
    • To only have clothes that make me feel good

You have been decluttering and are maintaining your home and garden. It is a long slow process but you are working towards these points:
    • A well maintained, clean clutterfree house
    • To have nothing in my house that I do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.
    • To welcome friends into our home without worry
    • Hygge

You have an emergency fund and have commented about pension provision, made mortgage overpayments etc, so you are making plans:
    • To be financially secure
    • To have provision for an enjoyable retirement
    • An emergency fund
    • A refresh fund to replace things with a finite life

I think there has been talk about a weekend away … and off the top of my head I think you had a big holiday.
    • Weekends away
    • Holidays

I recall you had an upset with a friend and dealt with it well so I do think you are capable of dealing with people and issues as detailed:
    • To be with people I like
    • To stop being afraid of people and experiences
    • To identify and eradicate tolerations
    • To engage with organisations who don’t disappoint

There are obviously lots more points to include - these are just off the top of my head. I hope this has been helpful.
