  • We are home and the kitchen has progressed in our absence. There’s still a fair way to go but we have our larder cupboard back in place which frees up floor space elsewhere. I am starting to see an end to it all and can’t wait.

Saturday night concert was good but organisation wasn’t great and we had issues getting there because of the pride parade.
Sunday I met up with dd and we spent the day pockling around petticoat lane and spitalfields. It was so nice both in terms of catch up and leisurely shopping. I also hit lucky in a shop that I like but previously struggled to get clothes that fitted in. I got two tee shirts, two blouses a long cardigan and a pair of something between leggings and trousers with change from £80. One of the blouses in particular will work really well with work suits. We met ds and two of his friends and treated them all to his birthday dinner. It cost but we bought a birthday cake, the caterpillar one suitable for a chocoholic, which at least meant there were no desserts. DD had told me that her brother and one of the friends have been pretty much funding her social life the past year so I was glad to treat them. The other friend provides her with somewhere to stay if she is ever overnight in London.

DD’s £800 car died last week and she needs one for work. She also has an extra month’s living costs between her last bursary payment and her first month’s salary. In addition a close friend of hers based in the US has been given a terminal diagnosis. This is on top of the suicide last week of a school friend. So we have agreed to raid the emergency fund of £2000 which she will repay at £400 per month starting at the end of September when she goes onto salary. This should allow her to get a car and a flight to US. It’s her birthday in two weeks so she will also get cash for that from her father and some from us. We also got her bits and pieces so she has a present to open. Demands have been made for a parcel to contain items including Percy pigs and fingers of fudge.

On other news, I was contacted about two small pieces of work yesterday, one from a new client. And, I got a cheque on Thursday that I will get lodged today.

    Today I am grateful for
A catch up with the offspring
A break and a reminder that I need to step away from work from time to time
The half price shoes I got yesterday that were exactly what I’d been looking for

What a tough time for your DD. :( I think the moral and financial support will go a long way to help, though.

  • Yesterday I got the most important task of the day done plus I had a pre planned meeting go ahead. The question is for how much longer I will be able to bite my tongue with the manager. At the minute, I need bodies and he is that. I was on site until after seven last night. On the plus side, this meant that I was able to purchase dinner for me. The kitchen continues to progress and I think we are one day away from a functioning sink. That would be amazing. Isn’t it odd just how much we take some things for granted.

I spoke to DD last night, there was a reason and I can’t remember why but she had good news. A friend of a friend is getting a new car so has offered her the old one at the trade in price which is a really good deal. That money needs transferred today plus £50 I owe her. In addition she finally invoiced me for work done so that needs paid from the business account.

Today I am due to meet someone who may be available to help at a client which would be good. Fingers crossed for that. I do need to get motoring.

    Today I am grateful for
The emergency fund that allows dd to take advantage of a good deal on a safe car whose history is known
The opportunity of an air clearing chat
Progress at the client, the kitchen, etc

  • I know beanie, I worry that she could buy a previous write off or something equally dangerous. At least her office base is moving closer to where she lives so journeys will be only work related visits as opposed to commutes.

Yesterday’s meeting did not go ahead but I got a prescription collected and cheques lodged which is good as fri is a bank holiday here so I wanted them at the bank before that. The rest of the day was a bit of a mishmash.

It appears that I was overly optimistic about a sink. It’s still not in but is moving closer. When I get that, I can start the scrub down of bits that are complete and can then start getting things back into place. If this happens, I can get access to the cooker which would make such a difference. Fingers crossed for today.

Today I need to reign in a staff member who has taken too much upon herself and who has made mistakes but that will come. The first thing needs addressed quickly. I also need to stop off on way to work to get prescription filled, to drop bread into my mum’s and to call at her preferred bakery which closes today for 4 weeks.

    Today I am grateful for
A simple toast based dinner from what’s in house
    Providing a solution for someone
The prospect of a day off
