INOD I/we follow the BSD - OH sometimes does 5:2 when he has to shed a few pounds for his extreme sport hobby. I read Dr. Ms the book and his wife's recipe book and TBH it all made sense to me.I dont ave a blood sugar problem but do need to lose some weight - not vanity but more wanting to live a long and active life and I do not want to buy any more clothes just because what I have is a little snug.......well ok doesnt really fit :rotfl:
We dont eat low fat anything! I dont miss bread or potatoes but will have a slice of something decent or a baked spud every now and then. We eat lots of cheese and eggs and yoghurt - yog and berries is my usual breakfast which I dont eat until I get to work. Lunches are boiled eggs, tuna, chopped peppers and cucumbers nuts and seeds. I dont eat as much fruit nowadays but do occasionally have dried fruit such as prunes and apricots as I need to keep potassium levels up and always have berries of some sort in.
We have found it relatively easy TBH -we just tweeked what we eat already. We do have pasta or rice once a week ( weighing the portions!) and we do eat fish and red meat. I just heap in/on the veg with everything and certainly has made a difference. never feel hungry and activity level has increased. I have dropped about 10lbs since end of January. Its nice slow and steady.
Stick with it and adapt the recipes to suit you. Plenty of water the key in early days!Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Thanks for the advice. Drinking water has, for at least a year, been my one healthy habit. I generally get through over 2 litres every day of just water. I reckon that for 8 weeks, I need to stick to the plan rigidly. I will then consider where my diabetes is. One part of me is worried that it is too far in to avoid a move to insulin. If things don’t work as predicted, I will be more able to accept that. Equally, if I deviate from the plan, I will probably convince myself that it was the deviation that was the problem rather than the condition iyswim. Anyhow, today I scraped back into the normal range which is a big plus.
Yesterday a major shitstorm descended that I can’t even begin to describe. All I could think bar the moments of panic, was that if I can get through this without chocolate, I can get through anything. I found a topic in my desk drawer and literally threw it at a colleague to get rid of it. If I’d kept it, I’d have eaten it.
On the plus side, through a common acquaintance, I was contacted by a former client yesterday looking for a wee bit of work. It won’t be a big fee but every little helps. It’s also nice hen people come to me rather than the firm for who I worked.
Today and tomorrow I am finishing early. Today it’s before a toxic shift starts, tomorrow it’s because dh is taking the day for interview prep and may actually allow some input by afternoon. The irony is that I don’t do a good interview but can coach others through the process.
Today I am grateful for

Avoiding the chocolate under all that pressure is pretty amazing. I hope you manage to get out today before the late shift starts!
Great news that you've been contacted in person for extra work - they must really like you and it may lead to more in the long term.
All good wishes to your DH for the interview.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Today is day 6 and blood sugar is down another 1.1 points so much more firmly in normal range. DH has been told that after Monday, he needs to engage with driving as if the rate at which it is dropping continues, there may be times when I’m at risk of hypos so won’t be driving. I really never thought that would be possible. Maybe I’m still in the honeymoon phase but I kind have a Kate Moss paraphrase running on a loop in my head
Nothing tastes as good as blood sugar control feels.
Work wise, things are not good. Today I am going to take the bull by the horns and seek clarity. I’m hoping I will be better able to cope with however bad the issues are than with uncertainty. There is however a risk that I am forcing an issue but I don’t think it would otherwise go away.
Today I am grateful for

Fantastic news on the new bloods readings! I hope you can get the clarity you are seeking at work. Knowing what you're dealing with can be a relief and at least you can work purposefully towards a resolution rather than suspecting something's wrong but not having the information.
Good luck (again:) ) to your DH/driver designate.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Well done on the lower blood sugar counts :T. I'm sure it will get easier as time goes on.
Well done also on coping with a work crisis without chocolate :T. I think when you realise that chocolate doesn't actually change anything then it's easier to resist it. I actually think that chocolate makes me feel worse because it causes mood swings.

Well emails issued seeking clarity and not even acknowledged. Still, I’m now just trying to park matters for now. Just wish my sleep patterns could see that! Added to which, a sit down protest from the furry princess against going out into the rain, meant she was full of beans ridiculously early this morning.
Blood sugar reading has been taken and it has climbed again though still just within normal range. I don’t understand why based on yesterday’s consumption but after today I will be 12.5% of the way through. Tomorrow is weigh in day and while this isn’t primarily about weight loss, I’d still like there to be some good news.
Yesterday I used the last of my sb m&s vouchers to get some nice already calorie counted food that works well for lunches. I also stopped at my local co op for mushrooms as the marks ones were too dear. I got a buy one get one half price plus dividend as they were own brand.
Today I need to do some grocery shopping plus some money stuff. I also need to update my sig to reflect current finances and pre diet weight so I can track any progress to help me stay engaged. I also have things that need done around house and garden.
Today I am grateful for
All the encouragement here although I must be boring people to death by banging on about blood sugar!
