  • So, I was interrupted but am back. I’ve done bsd for 2 days and my blood sugars have reduced by 5 points and show in the normal range for the first time in what seems like forever. I don’t like the food and I really don’t like the recipes but I’m hopeful that I can cobble together some type of eating plan. I am sorted for breakfast but dinner can be a struggle without bread or potato. On the plus side I am not a fan of salad dressings so just skip those which slightly reduces the calories. On the downside I am sticking with tea and am allowing myself a mandarin which isn’t in the plan.
I’ve decided to knock the c25k on the head for now and tonight’s improvement activity will be to dig out a stridey stepper type machine. It’s weird but I never thought that I’d be too nervous of low blood sugar to exercise outside.

Today I am back at that client and my first task is to remove the biscuits from my office drawer. There is a late meeting this evening and I’m nervous about going for a longer time without food. I’m also worried about my tendency to eat when stressed. Still my water intake is always good when I’m there.

    Today I am grateful for
Such a fast and positive result on my sugar levels
Incredible support from dh on this
    Good client engagement yesterday

  • You are off to a great start INOD.
I don't think tea matters (assuming there is no sugar in the tea)
You will find that once you have been doing this for 10 days or so it gets easier. The secret is plan, plan, plan ahead.
Well done DH for the support
Since eating in a no simple sugar way my blood sugar levels are excellent and I am no longer insulin resistant so it works. Stay with it INOD.

Can you use cheese or nuts to help you keep going? I know they are both calorific so you'd have to weigh them out I expect, but they could make a difference to how you feel. (I don't know the details of the bsd so I can't comment on the food but if you start keeling over or go on hating it you are much more likely to give up - and your results are great). Alternatively could that mandarin go in the desk drawer for later?

Well done on the blood sugar levels. The bsd recommends full fat or semi skimmed milk rather than skimmed as it helps to keep you full. I have full fat yoghurt, berries and toasted flaked almonds for breakfast which I love and which keeps me going until lunch. A handful of nuts is recommended if feeling in need of a snack.
It's so different from the low fat diet that ww prescribes. I lost weight with ww but it all came back but I feel more able to stick with the bsd (sometimes!) due to the cheese, cream, etc. However I really like the recipes especially the pulses and added flavours from spices and herbs. Remember you can have quinoa and bulgar wheat and also konjac "pasta".
    Keep going!

  • Thanks verbatim, we double checked on the milk and have stuck with semi skimmed. My breakfast is porridge with grated apple and cinnamon, I’m not a fan of yogurt. Quinoa I’m ok with but the other stuff really isn’t me and I don’t do spices much as I don’t really like the taste and also have quite bad rosacea so need to avoid them. To be honest, im better with bland naked food than with trying to eat recipes I don’t like.

I was a bit gutted this morning as my blood sugar went up to being back in high. Having said that, I didn’t get in from work until 9 last night so it was a late dinner of bacon and mushroom omelette heavily featuring mushroom with just one slice of bacon chopped through for flavour. I really don’t know what I’d do without dh who is doing all the meal prep. I’m drinking lots of water but I’m still feeling both hungry and headachey.

I have been working with that client to arrange a strategy day. Venue, catering and even a grant to help with costs have been sorted and have just been derailed by the manager who now can’t do the agreed day as it’s his birthday weekend. I despair. I need to better define my exit strategy. Yesterday I set up a meeting with another client. It’s to start a piece of work that will not complete or get paid until September but it’s good to know it’s in the offing. It will mean an early start to be in Dublin for 9 but I’m meeting up with a friend afterwards for a non lunch. I might even try to see another client in the afternoon which might give me the kick I need to finish off and invoice that assignment. Given that they are also Dublin based, I’d probably be as well to get it done pre brexit deadline.

Right, day 4 of 56 is underway. I just need to get hump day out of the road. How weird it is to be looking forward to weigh in on Sunday. For the next few weeks I’m guessing this diary will be more about diet accountability than financial accountability. At this stage, it’s what needs to be prioritised. However, I’m expecting that the lack of junk food purchases and takeaways will generate savings. I can no longer avail of my £1 lunches on site.

    Today I am grateful for
So much support with this plan
Work assistance from a supportive source
    A better night’s sleep
    Right, gott

  • I hope you can keep going with your eating plan. I found bland food suits me reasonably well but DH cannot stand bland food. I have oats with skimmed milk for breakfast and find it very filling and satisfying. I do eat bread though only one slice a day with scrambled eggs for lunch.

I think on the BSD you have to avoid carbs and too much fruit because of the sugar content, am I right? Do you like chick peas? I love chick peas and beans, and vegetables are so much nicer when they're roasted in the oven.

I hope you manage to get rid of nightmare client soon.

Don't worry, I am sure you will get cheered on for this too: after all your physical health is a priority. I think that once you are more used to the bsd the blips may well even out as you spot patterns.

I'm amazed your manager didn't spot his birthday weekend till after you had made all the arrangements! (Would it be in order to challenge him about his commitment?) Perhaps he will arrange to celebrate his birthday the next week if he thinks his availability will make him better thought of?

Good news about the longer-term work. :)

I hope you have a better day and don't have to eat too much bulgur wheat (your DH is a hero).
