Never again will I shop with ARGOS. Not only are they incompetent, they break the law where data protection is concerned and frankly don’t appear to care. We have a fridge, from a local supplier, and we have our local council coming to pick up what appears to be a perfectly good fridge with some cosmetic damage all because of their incompetence. For me the most damning thing about this whole experience is that despite sending 2 signed for letters to Board members, this was passed to a minion who was clueless and inept.
We are making a complaint to the information commissioner’s office and will be sending another signed for letter to a board member. This company seems to believe, having advised us that the appliance delivered was unsafe, that we should store it in dry conditions until pick up at a time when we couldn’t be home because even with 6 days’ notice, their courier couldn’t give us a suitable 2 hour time slot and that they hadn’t attempted a refund until we kicked up mightily and even then we would only get after 3 to 5 days.
They do have an environmental policy but their actions did not accord with this in any way. I know our council have a white goods recycling facility so hopefully the value in the fridge will be gained by someone.
So here endeth that rant. On other news, I got my tax return submitted and client charity returns also gone. Other work tasks are being ticked off for more than one client but there remains a demanding one. With my accountant finishing my tax return, we identified money that I earned last year that was still sitting in the business account so that was transferred last night. There’s a holiday I’d really like to take in May:rotfl::rotfl:
Money wise, I have started to stock up the fridge though there was a takeaway on Wednesday that also addressed most of Thursday night’s dinner. While I am a sucker for ordering in, having a six foot cardboard box containing a fridge in the middle of your kitchen along with a lack of functioning fridge does not make for easy meal prep. Happily we only had a skiff of snow so deliveries could be made.
I am back to buying larger more economical containers of milk. I also realised that sometimes just a small disruption can fairly push up your living costs.
We also managed to make use of our hof reissued voucher before its expiry date. Nothing wildly extravagant or desirable but new bedding, etc. That should inspire me to do another sort out which would be good.
I have continued to list things leaving the house and to make the odd TT to the mortgage. I will update on here when I have retrieved my list. I will also update my sig. The focus at this time of year is always keeping the cc clear when there is some carry over from Christmas spends. So far, this has happened. I had deliberately waited to the first day of a new billing cycle to buy the fridge so despite incompetence, credit card balances should be unaffected by having to buy two and wait for a refund. Our quarterly gas bill was paid in January so fingers crossed the next one will be a bit lower.
Work wise, there are opportunities out there and a decision to be made re growth or stay as I am. The type of growth I’m looking at could see me needing to vat register which appears to be entering a nightmare world due to changes. Anyhow, that’s not a Saturday morning decision and Saturday afternoon will be occupied with rugby!

That is truly terrible customer service. I hope your letters get some good results - it's amazing how some businesses respond really well to customer feedback and others seem to think it doesn't matter.

Can only echo the others on the abysmal service and insulting way they have handled your complaint. In my experience complaints to board members never get to be seen by those concerned - their PA 's end up diverting them to the department that deals with the complaints. I hope something comes of this debacle though - some free goods should be the order of the day.

Blimey what an awful saga with your fridge  Argos should be ashamed of themselves . DH and I always find that having a moan on Tw!tt3r gets results very quickly as they hate the bad publicity.
I'm sorry you're having family troubles too, I know how stressful that can be.
Well done on getting your tax return submitted, I know that must be a massive relief :T. DH and I are going to de-register for vat soon due to the nightmare new regulations you just mentioned, as we're well under the threshold. Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

I find that Argos when they get something wrong get it spectacularly wrong! I managed to get help through FB from them in the end.
Could you not sell the fridge rather than get the council to collect it? If it's only cosmetic damage someone might be prepared to take it off your hands."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee1 -
I’m not on Facebook at all but thanks to those who suggested this option. I wouldn’t risk selling it on in case there is damage that isn’t apparent to me. The plus point that came out of this is that we are also getting rid of the old garage fridge that we discovered wasn’t working in December. This resulted in a tiny bit of a garage tidy up which is always a plus. :j
Interestingly, the delivery and collection from NI continues to be an issue. When we ordered the hof stuff, we selected Belfast store for click and collect. They stated it would be there on Friday. We have since been contacted to be told that we will be emailed when it’s ready for collection. It’s not like they shouldn’t know delivery times to their own store. I get that things can take longer. I just don’t like being mislead.
I’ve just had this week’s conversation with mr wii and there’s no change. We put the bs diet on hold as we were eating stuff that we had in the freezer pending a new fridge. Next weekend has been earmarked with shopping lists, etc currently under construction. I’m nervous but needs must and I’d really like to be able to wear clothes that I like as opposed to those that kinda work with my size.
Over the last week, I paid my NIC and my final professional subscription so apart from monthly expenses, there’s no more outlay expected from my business account. Today I will issue two invoices and will pay my dec and jan expenses. I also have laundry to do and will set up the press to get the ironing cleared efficiently if not perfectly. This evening we are out for dinner as we have a voucher to be used. I am also making stew today to live off over the next few days but I need to get spuds and carrots. I will also drop some down to my mother.
Today I am grateful for
Clean sheets to sleep on

What a nightmare with the fridge.
Did you see the programme a few months back about the 800 calories and the fantastic effects it had on diabetes. I think it is the diet you’re talking about. It was quite fascinating - the results were amazing. Must be hard to stick to though.January spends - £587.581
