  • Met the client yesterday, had lovely scrambled eggs and they picked up the tab which was a bonus. My only cost was £2.10 car parking. Went to the nightmare yesterday afternoon. Their challenges increase but I took in a donation from a member of the public. £250 worth of new clothes plus 2 bags of Christmas goodies and toiletries. It was both generous and well thought out. People can be so nice.

Today I am doing a morning catch up with other client stuff and some admin that includes chasing an unpaid invoice. I might also be lucky enough to be at home to receive a parcel. That would be so good. I may meet a friend for lunch but that will be quite last minute if it happens.

Confession time, I slept until after 11 yesterday. I did then get some work stuff done but it was around 4 before I made it to the client for just 2 hours. Came home and dealt with a quick query from another client.
I have a meeting on Monday with a possible new client. It’s for a small job in March but it came via a recommendation which is so good.

Today I am tired. DH and I had a row last night. He rolled over and went to sleep and I couldn’t. He attempted the usual sticking plaster approach this morning but I’m not happy with that. He needs to see that change is needed.

I need to get into that client for an hour or so. I am then going to brave the Swedish shop for the biscuits that will be part of my mum’s Christmas present. There are other bits and pieces to be picked up from various places but my cc statement date is tomorrow and I’ve been trying to hold off as it’s been a spendy month. Also, it was used yesterday to purchase tickets that dd will pay for but for which I had an advance purchase offer.
I am going to suggest that the cost of her ticket could be ds’s present to her.
I’ve been reading about how various people on here are scaling back on presents for grown up children this year. For me, there’s a different issue as DD is living away from home for the first time, on a bursary while doing the masters with work placement that requires professional dress. However, I also try to balance what I buy each of them so, a bit of a quandary.

Anyhow today I am grateful for
A warm bed. I may be miserable but I do have my creature comforts, so many don’t.
A catch up with a friend

So difficult to know what to do for the best for our adult children.
All respect to your DD for doing her Masters while working.
Did I mention my DS is now a MRes :rotfl:xx

  • I've scaled back with DD over the years. She tends to buy things she wants as she sees them.

Hope you resolve things with OH.

We don't get anything from our parents any more. They usually send some chocolate etc, but we only buy gifts for children these days.

  • Sorry about the row with DH :( I hope you manage to make peace with each other.

If you can afford to help DD then it might be helpful to her. I very much agree with scaling back, but I guess it depends upon affordability for you and the circumstances of the DC .

  • So, there were crisis talks yesterday and things are sorted between me and dh. Why do people decide what’s best for others without talking to them!

Yesterday was a fairly unproductive day though I did chase up a client and money is en route. I also worked on an invoice that will be issued Sunday evening when I have a few more things progressed. It’ll probably be paid pre Christmas but I’m trying to stick within my set earnings despite a rather healthy balance in the business account. That is to meet my end of tax year goals for savings and mortgage.

I did get a referral for some work which may reduce down time over Christmas but I can’t turn it away. The nightmare already cost me a client this year for whom work had been delivered in part but had to be written off. I need to formally consider getting some help and the nature of that help. That’s a process for feb or March.
