OK, I've noticed a couple of odd things.
Firstly, when I've reversed, and the camera goes back to normal mode, the display no longer goes blank after 10 seconds.
Secondly, the rear camera is recording a mirror image, so it looks as though I'm driving on the continent, but with all the Reg plates printed backward.
Are these things normal, and, if not, how do I correct them?0 -
What connectors are on the end of the rear camera cable?
On one end of the long lead is a stereo headphone plug (this plugs into the mirror camera), and on the other end is a small (about 5mm diameter) multi-pin plug (could be a socket - can't recall which), and a single red wire with no fitting.
The camera just has a multi-pin plug/socket (again, can't recall which), to connect up to its mate on the long lead.0 -

Sorry, I should have also asked how long is the connecting lead.
I won't be able to splice into the car's wiring loom to install (terms of extended warranty don't allow changes to original fitments) so I'll need to use the leads supplied if long enough.0 -

I extended the lead from the camera, not the wires in the car.
I did cut into the wiring loom, but it could also be done using some other method, such as a bullet or spade connector, depending on what is already used on the vehicle.
I just went for the easy option (my car is well out of warranty), but there are non-invasive options too.0 -
Does the reverse facing camera not stop on all the time to record anyone running into the back of your car?or do link it into the reverse light switch to record your possible driving prangs/accidents?0
-
The rear camera is on all the time (just like the front one), but it only occupies a small area of the screen, at the top right-hand corner.
However, although the cameras run non-stop, the display is set to deactivate after 10 seconds, so you can use the entire mirror for checking behind you, and so you aren't distracted by the video images.
When you engage reverse, the screen reactivates, and the rear camera image occupies the whole display, and it shows some coloured lines (not yet figured out how to read them), to guide your parking.0 -

Often there are settings to flip the rear camera image. If not you can use video editing software to flip it very easily.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

As for the rear camera, it appears to be of a lower quality (possibly only 720p), and it's also 4:3, rather than the widescreen of the front one.

All in all though, more than adequate, and far more than I expected, for only £36.
BTW: Another feature I like, is that the videos are separate (and stored in separate folders) for each camera.
Biased too far to the left, thats the issue with them they are designed for LHD vehicles.
The lower quality rear cam is normal. You maybe able to swap out the rear cam for a better quality one, but with 2 HQ cams the issue comes down to the speed that it can write data to the SD card. Too much data and it will drop frames instead.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

The problem with flipping the image, after recording, is that the time and date stamp will be reversed.forgotmyname wrote: »Biased too far to the left, that's the issue with them they are designed for LHD vehicles.
I didn't say it was too far to the left.
As I mentioned earlier, it's not really an issue, since it still gives full road width coverage, as can be seen on this video.

Indeed, given how quickly a vehicle, emerging from a junction on the left, can be in front of you, a slight left bias may be a good thing.0 -
You didnt say it was too far left, I said it was too far to the left. My preference would be more central than that camera can see.
Also its only 140 degrees, where 170 degrees is common, but the trade off is a slightly more fisheye effect.
Lots of compromises with dashcams, whats the quality like without the youtube compression? I clicked an older video you had and the quality on that one was pretty poor.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
