Halfords (yes, I know) will do a hard install for about £30, no visible cable and comes on and off with ignition.

Plus (provided you get full lane coverage, which you do), I think it probably helps if it is biased a little to the kerb, as that's the side you are most likely to have a vehicle emerge in front of you, from a junction.
Regarding the rear camera, it's now fitted and working, although the wiring isn't routed yet, and the reversing light lead isn't connected yet.
TBH, I'm not that bothered about the reversing camera option, as I'm comfortable reversing on my door mirrors.0 -
I've never seen a dash cam, or anything like it, which is why I'm asking daft questions
If it uses the cigarette lighter .... does it still work when the ignition's off? Or does that mean it would need hard wiring? Also, when I've got the ignition off and the radio on, "economy mode" kicks in after some minutes and turns off the radio ... so I'm guessing the hard wire would also need to connect in past that point.0 -
Its not a daft question when asked politely
Ignition off= no power to lighter in most cars.
Hard wiring is better if you (or someone you know) can complete the job easily.0 -

No. It'll have to go to "a proper place".
I was fine in the early 1980s wiring in my own illegal amateur radios with random bits of red/black wire going directly onto the battery .... wouldn't touch a modern car0 -

Provided you buy their £160 Dash Cam.
BTW. I'm a bit uncomfortable about the hard wired option, because of:-Always on - your Dash Cam will turn on when you turn on the ignition, and turn off when you turn the engine off, meaning that you're always recording in case something happens out on the road.
Plugging it into my "always live" cigarette lighter socket, means it will remain on when I leave the car in a car park.0 -

That will depend on whether your lighter socket is wired to be "always live", or to operate with the ignition.
Mine is always live.0 -

Not true.
Get yourself a flying lighter socket, and Scotch Block the leads to the leads feeding the existing lighter socket, then plug in the power lead from the Dash Cam.

Wide angle but its only 140 degrees and how many degrees is your mirror twisted?
The original mirror mounting may get in th eway on some vehicles.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
