Nice Dash Cam - Nice price.

Had a dash cam fitted by Halfords two weeks ago. NextBase 312G. £99 plus £30 for fitting. All cabling out of sight and piggy-backed to the fuse box. I am ashamed to say that I have yet to discover the location of the fuse box (should have asked the fitter at Halfords). The designers of my Vauxhall Agila seem to have taken great pains to hide away both the fuse box and the OBD port. I know they are somewhere below the dash on the drivers side. It is not easy getting upside down within the confines of the car (at my age). Concerned passers-by tap on the window and ask worriedly "are you alright?"
I also bought a reverse camera kit from ebay last week for just over £30. The display monitor is attached to the rear view mirror and is powered by the cigarette lighter. That is no problem. At the moment however, it is a "work in progress" as I have not yet worked out how to get the camera cable into the car from off the license plate. The strange thing is I am absolutely certain that I fitted the existing audible reverse warning system some years ago, when I first bought the car. Hopefully all will become clearer next week.0 -

The previous generations were designed for LHD vehicles and the camera positioned accordingly. When you fit it to a RHD car the cam pointed towards the kerb and wouldn't turn far enough to the right.
It doesn't seem to be a problem.

As for the rear camera, it appears to be of a lower quality (possibly only 720p), and it's also 4:3, rather than the widescreen of the front one.

All in all though, more than adequate, and far more than I expected, for only £36.
BTW: Another feature I like, is that the videos are separate (and stored in separate folders) for each camera.0 -

Mine is always live.
It is worth mentioning that in some modern cars the 12v power sockets as they are now called stay live for a set period of time then fully shut down, mine shuts off after 10 mins but I understand this time varies depending on model and manufacturer.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -
I bought a couple of lighter plugs from ebay. They are already wired and have a switch at the front. You can switch on and off as you please.0

I wonder if you can get an extension cable for the rear camera, so you can fit it to a motor-home?0

OK, job finished. :j
Had to extend the reverse camera cable by about 18", to reach the existing reversing light cable, but it works fine.
Cables are only visible in two place, firstly above the windscreen (will try to get them under the roof lining at some point), and secondly going over the passenger side door post.
The rest of the time, the cables are under the fascia panels, rubber door surrounds, and in the roof lining.
BTW: I don't understand the image on the reversing camera
Care to explain how to read it consumers_revenge?0 -

one of these putting plugging into say the electric windows fuse ( which only come on when the cars on ) and add another fuse in the spare slot for the camera https://www.amazon.co.uk/seguryy-Middle-Standard-Fuses-Parts/dp/B00V7WDGA6/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1491685034&sr=8-12&keywords=piggyback+fuse
and one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01N0EJX9J/ref=sr_1_2?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1491685165&sr=1-2&keywords=permanent+power+dash+cam
that one end goes into the camera power in. the red end joins up with the fuse and you connect the black end to any earth point on the care. It really is that simple if you have played with any type of wiring before.
the reverse camera just plugs into the mirror and you just connect the wires that come off the back camera into the reversing light wires. Theres plenty of guides on youtube if you get stuck.
The hardwire kit you have linked to has a micro usb connector, I think you need a standard usb connector for these.0 -

I just realised what I posted, I don't mean a standard usb, I mean a usb mini-b
that's what my connector looks like

You posted while I was typing, that is the one on the left.0 -
Bedsit_Bob wrote: »Actually, it's the length of the wire, which is going to be the problem.
The wire is only about a yard long, and if it's got to follow trunking, all the way from the spoiler to the reversing lamp, it's not going to be long enough.
I'm hoping I can splice into the loom, close to the spoiler.
What connectors are on the end of the rear camera cable?0
