  • Just found him, phew! He did make it down to the kitchen, must have been quite a drop from the ceiling. He emerged from behind the cooker (which we've used twice today) looking a little greasy and confused, but OK. He's now drinking water and eating cucumber and seems relieved to be back in his own palatial quarters. I'm so glad he's OK and thanks to all who replied.

Our's has escaped twice, the first time he was in the cavity wall, we didn't think he'd ever get out but we caught him in the kitchen a few days later :T

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

I was trying to upload two pictures but stupid work has blocked photobucket and I cant think of anywhere else to upload them

Our Hamster used to live on a table to the left of a radiator (which was under a window) and he slept under his green ramp in the cage with his bedding

We moved the room around recently and put him away from the radiator as I was worried he was too hot (he always seemed to be drinking during the day when heating was on when he should have been asleep). But then OH cleaned him out the other day (and I personally dont think he put enough bedding and sawdust in there) and we woke up the other day and he had taken all his bedding from the green house (under the ramp) to his white house?

He normall doesnt bother with the white house he just stores food tehre sometimes

Do you think he is too cold??

Ive moved him to the left hand side of the desk now so he is closer to the radiator again?

IF he escapes again...it's worth unplugging unused electrical stuff...our old fella did a runner and we were looking for him when a sudden bang and puff of smoke announced his demise after gnawing through the cordless phone power wire. We should have seen that coming and it would have been so easy to avoid until we recaptured him.

Same thing happened to my friends hamster- he blew and arm and a leg off when he escaped and ate through wires!
It was a happy ending though- he was recaptured, taken to the vets and lived for another year on his 2 'stumps' after that!
:j :jTotally and utterly debt free as of 27/05/09!!!:j :j

In my opinion moving bedding etc is just a normal Hamster routine. I think that you did the right thing by moving him away from the window and the radiator as extremes of either can lead to little Hammys becoming very ill. Don't worry to much just make sure that you keep enough bedding in there. He will move it around but as long as it is not ice cold where he is I am sure he will do fine. He is a very lucky Hammy to have such caring owners :)

So glad you found him, I've had hamsters escape a few times, the worst was when one escaped from the loft bedroom where he lived to the downstairs bathroom, god only knows how he managed to get all the way down there?! It was my ex's house, apparently he got up one morning, went to the bathroom and got the shock of his life to see Wiggles sat there looking up at him :rotfl: he didn't even realise he was out of his cage. What makes it even more amazing is that he must have been out all night, managed to wander three floors, and avoided being eaten by their cat who has the run of the house at night
D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't important

My Hamster used to do the same, in fact he used to take all his bedding into his house, come out & scrap all the sawdust over there too! I used to find sawdust everywhere lol!

He should be fine, mine always was, he just liked being covered up completly.

If his hammy house has a roof, clean it daily because it will get damp & spoil the bedding!
