I had a chipmunk who i used to let run about the house as a change from his outside aviary.He loved to squeeze through the smallest gaps.He got into the roof space and when i looked outside the front of the house there he was, balancing on the telephone wire :eek:.And he would dig his way out from underneath his home,and run round the garden,then scale the wall and get on the garage roof,eventually climbing on to house roof.He gave me heart failure several times but always came home cos he knew where he was well off!!

I have 2 hamsters, in separate cages - Habitrail OVO. 1 hamster is very lively, to the point she's actually got 2 OVO's, to the value of nearly £100. She's now not content with this & her main aim is to get out. She's recently been downsized to 1 OVO as she'd chewed on the side so much she could pull it & get out! She got out 3 times before I removed that section. She's now chewing on another section... so I'm worried again she'll get out.

It wouldn't be a huge problem, but I have 5 cats.

So, can you recommend a decent cage? It can't be a wire one as the cats could possibly get their paws in. I was considering a glass tank type? But have not had any experiences with this.

Thanks yes it has a roof, so I will do that too, he just popped out of his house to say hello lol

I have a one with a glass bottom and the top has a little bit or wire on, even if the cats did get their paws in which I doubt then the hamster would be no where near the top?

kindofagilr - Is Wispa content with that size? My worry is Betty is crazy & needs running space. Is that a cage you can add to?

We bought a big metal pen as well so Wispa get put into that every night to have a run around in and he cant escape lol

Edit: just saw your post, yes he is more than happy, he runs around on his wheel and we let him in his pen as well

my sons hamster got out of every cage - wire - plastic whatever - most nights. he also managed to get out of sons room - past my dog (whose mission in life was to kill hamster) and into my bedroom. then past the cat on bed and spend the rest of the night curled up on pillow next to me!!! he did this for two years!!! oh and he also managed to destroy the curtain which was next to his plastic cage - not the box - the one which looks like life on futuristic planet with about ten rooms!!!

We used a glass tank to start with but it seemed to smell really quickly. We use a wire cage now (Savic Cambridge) and really pleased with it, mostly because its easy for my kids to clean by themselves (age 12 and 9).

The one kindofagilr has looks good, I've seen them in Pets at Home.
