  • I use just tap water with no more than one or two drops of lavender aromatherpy oil or if you prefer one of the scented oils that you can get for burners

Thanks, I use cheap rosewater (from Asian Deli) as I love the smell and a little goes a long way & doesn't seem to threaten to block my iron.

:T :T I have loads of Rose Water! Usually do as apprentice, but as I have a glut of RW, I shall give it a go :D

  • I use shop bought ironing water but decant a third into an empty bottle and fill with water so it lasts three times as long and it still smells beautiful. I just love the comfort ones. Never used the oils. They don't leave any marks on the clothes, then?

No, they don't leave marks on the clothes because you are only using a couple of drops in water. :)

    Hi everyone :)

I found a couple of earlier threads about ironing water so I've added them together here.

The usual rule applies - you'll need to read from the beginning again to catch up :)

That's what I used to do. I used the Body Shop fragrances - white cotton or lavender. I don't do it anymore as I have a steam generator iron.
  • I like the sound of these HM oils ones, def give it a go.

I loved that ironing water but gave it up as its not really needed but smelt great. I then started putting a couple of drops of lavender eo into my iron and filling it with water. There was an earlier thread which said its not advisable as it either may ruin the iron or ruin the clothes. I thought nothing of it really until a couple of days later and my hubby was ironing something and the iron splurted out a spray of really dirty brown stuff all over what he was ironing. Since then I use a plastic spray bottle with very diluted fabric conditioner in and spray just before I iron
  • Years ago, when I worked in TS, we did tests on various bottles of de-ionised water, and did a test on various areas' tapwaters as controls. The purest water, with the least mineral content, was Birmingham tapwater. It is the softest water you can find.

Our water comes from South Staffs, but we regularly get bottles of tapwater from friends in Brum for use in irons, etc. Never had any problems.

Aha, Mr Smartprice, where does Birmingham Tap water come from?

From memory many moons ago they flooded a valley in Mid Wales, the Elan Valley and piped the water to Birmingham. Therefore the purest water actually comes from Wales.

That makes me so glad to be Welsh....:T :D:D:D
    I had a plan..........its here somewhere.
