HI
Personally I think that only water is the best thing in an iron, you could use a plant spray with something in as mentioned. Personally I love the smell of freshly ironed clothes especialy from being dried on the line with no other scent added. My friend insists on using that revolting stuff to put in the iron, I think is is really expensive, unnecesary and smells quite foul.
JOStarting with a clean slate.

I've never found the need to iron water, I simply pour onto the desired surface and it flattens out all on its own, no creases either.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0

Sorry if this has been asked before but I am a newbie.
I normally use iron water as we have such hard water in our area and I love the smell.
I am committed to clearing my debt so realise that this is probably an extravagance I need to get rid of.
Problem is if I use normal tap water by iron with be knackered in a few months.
Any suggestions of old school ways?Proud to be dealing with my debts - DFW No: 712

When I was a kid and we lived in a hard water area my dad used to get distilled water from work. Failing that you could buy it from the chemist (then). Obviously it had no smell and maybe cheaper (if you can still get it lol) than the lovely smelly water that you use now.
Not being scientifically minded I dont actually know what distilled water is, so dont know whether you can do this at home. I think its boiled and then filtered?? not sureYou're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *0 -
When I saw the title, I did wonder how someone had enough time on their hands to iron water
I also live in a hard water area, and have no problems with tap water (taking the view that *ironing water* is just a marketing gimic to sell us something we don't need). My irons fail for reasons other than being furred up. I add a couple of drops of burner oil to ad a nice smell to the air.
I then descale my iron from time to time, using white vinegar, or a proprietary mix.
There are loads of other threads on this subject. I'll go and find some, if Pink doesn't beat me to it :T

Distilled water is made by boiling water, and collecting the steam, which is almost pure water. *Hardness* in water is caused by dissolved mineral salts, which reamin behind as the pure water is boiled away. Not easy to do at home.
There will be a short test later

http://www.purdicehome.co.uk/ironing-oils-c-14.html?osCsid=511d25d34b0aef7f5e786d564fe72d3d these can be a good alternative for the fragrance, I used to have an apple scented one which was lovely.
My friend lives in a very hard water area and she always boils it before putting it in the iron, wonder if that will help?
Distilled water is where they boil the water then turn the steam back into water, wonder if water from a condensor dryer would work the same in an iron....One day I might be more organised...........
