I am eligible for an upgrade in 5 days time. I'm a bit annoyed because Vodafone recently had a winter sale which ended last week offering an Xperia Z3 compact for £22.50 a month with 600 mins, unlimited texts and 500gb data. This is the phone I want and the maximum I would be prepared to pay for a contract. The price has now gone up as the sale is over - do you think it's worth asking Vodafone if they would honor the sale price as I wasn't able to upgrade until now?

Similar deal with EE for £19.99 a month - and you'll get £27 through TopCashback for a contract purchased through Mobiles.co.uk

Just noticed a similar deal with O2 for £18 a month. Don't want to move networks but this could be a good bargaining tool. ;)
  • I'm due an upgrade and wasn't too bothered about changing phones but my current S3 has started freezing and turning itself off so went onto online chat today to get a similar deal for a newer Samsung. The guy kept offering me the mini S4 or the mini S5 despite me telling him I didn't want a mini ! My current plan is £24.40 month with 600 minutes, unlimited texts and 500mb, I just want something around the same price with probably a bit more data but a newer Samsung but not a mini !! - am I expecting too much ??
  • I managed to get a free 16gb iphone 6, 7gb 4G data, spotify for 2 years & unlimited texts/calls for £32.40 on a retention deal. Which i think is good.

I don't think you're expecting too much. I recently upgraded my other half's phone contract with vodafone, he got an S5 with unlimited minutes & texts and 1gb data for £24. Didn't even need to haggle for that. Try calling them instead of online chat. Are you actually out of contract now? If not, I'd wait until you are and try again. You'll get a better deal once you're actually out of contract.

Just extended my SIM-only contract for another 12 months.

I was on a retentions deal of 900 mins, unlimited txts and 1GB of 3G data for £10.50 which ran out earlier today.

After first being offered a similar deal with unlimited txts and 1GB of 4G data for £14.50 by the upgrade team I asked for my PAC, knowing full well a call from retentions would follow.

Indeed it did and their first offer was unlimited calls, texts, 3GB of 4G data for £10.20 (12 month contract, 40% off the normal price with an extra 2GB added apparently).

Ended up taking it as it's what I was looking for, ie similar monthly spend but with a lot more data (and I can make use of the 4G now that my town is covered).

I've been with Vodafone for several years now - since I signed up for my iPhone 4 about 4 years ago for £37 on a 12 month contract - I then moved to a £20.50 rolling Sim deal.

Since reading up more about sim only deals I realised how expensive my £20.50 a month tariff was. I've finally upgraded my handset to the iPhone 6 but I brought the handset from the Apple store. The new handset seems to use more data so need more than 1gb a month.

Went on online chat today to see what was on offer and they suggested £6 more a month for 1gb extra data!
So promptly requested my PAC code -and got my call back within a minute.

I've been offered 3gb 4G contract - for £13.20 a month unlimited minutes, texts and 3 months unlimited data. That's on a 12 month contract - which I'm ok with. Also free Now TV or Sky Sports or Spotify.

I should have looked into this about 2 years ago as I'd have saved myself a lot of money - my fault that.

I've never had any problems with Vodafone and they have started installing the 4G round here finally too.

Seems a fair deal to me.

If you're using up more data since switching phones, it's either because you're using the internet more on your new phone or the settings on your new phone are allowing it to consume more data than your old phone. Phones themselves don't eat up more data than others, it's all about how you're allowing it to use your mobile data. If you switch off data when you don't need it and you use wifi when available, your usage will be less.

Vodafone have offered you a good deal for what you're getting, although mobile.co.uk offers the same tariff for £6.99 via redemption.
