I'm currently paying £26 a month on Vodafone for 300 mins, unlimited texts, 500 MB data. I'm after a Galaxy S3, which I can pick up on a similar tariff from either phones4u or Carphone Warehouse, for the same amount per month, without any cost upfront (via the Orange network). By contrast, the best deal Vodafone could offer for the same phone online was £37 a month with £29 upfront cost. My contract ends at the beginning of February.

Called them on 11/1, requested my PAC. Said that I had seen a better deal elsewhere, and after he put me on hold to speak to his manager, he said that they could offer the same deal - no upfront cost, £26 a month staying on the same tariff that I'm on. I declined, since it wasn't better than the Orange offer and I could make use of Orange Wednesdays.

Got a call from Vodafone on 14/1, but wasn't able to take the call. They called again today (15/1) and it was someone from the "Loyalty" department. She asked me again the reasons that I was leaving, and I told her about the Orange offer and surprisingly she said that she couldn't match that, and hoped that I would consider Vodafone again in the future.

It's a shame really, because if Vodafone would offer me something just a bit better than what I could get with Orange, I'd probably stick with them. I would have thought she would have attempted to offer me the same deal as I was offered previously when I requested my PAC, which would have been good as a starting point. I might give them a little longer to come back to make a better deal, but not much longer.

Update on this: after looking at some other posts here, I thought I would ring Vodafone back on this to see whether they could offer me a similar deal with better data usage, more minutes or even slightly cheaper than what they offered when I requested my PAC. All he could offer was a deal which had unlimited minutes for around £33 a month.

So the one-time deal that I was offered when I requested my PAC seemed exactly that. I wasn't offered anything better or even offered the same deal when I rang Vodafone. I've placed my order now with phones4u, and if that all goes well, then I probably won't mind too much with switching networks. So do bear in mind that you might not be offered a better deal by retentions or even be reoffered the same deal when requesting your PAC.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Anyone had a recent retention offer on an iphone 4S or iphone 5??
We have a contract for my Son, but he would love an iphone and he would use it for work etc.
We only have done cashback deals which have been virtually free (with cashback) or a profit (selling phone plus Topcashback etc) and won't pay more than £22 p/m, well maybe a few pence more and ONLY with a free phone.

If not, then another cashback deal, but he is with Vodafone and happy. Not a problem at all switching and porting though.

I spoke to retentions today re upgrading to S3. At first I was offered the bog standard £37 pm deal that's on the Vodafone website, plus £29 for the handset. Then they reduced that to £31 with free handset. Finally they agreed to do the same package at £26 so free handset, unlimited calls & texts, 1gb data, 2gb wifi. Got the same deal for OH as well.

I probably could have haggled a bit more, or asked for my pac code, but I couldn't be bothered for the sake of another couple of quid a month.

What tariff were you on previously? And how long had you been with Vodafone? Trying to find out why they offer those deals to some customers but not others...

networks try to keep customers who have made them money in the last x months. that usually means those who spend over their basic package cost every month.

i.e. if your package basic cost was £30 a month and your average bill was £65 a month, then that would be an overspend of £35, which would be quite high and they would prob try to keep you. If your spend was only £34 a month, then they prob wouldnt bother.

the time you have been with them doesn't matter. again, its all about your spend, and if you're not over spending, loyalty counts for nothing.

I'm coming to the end of my contract and recently contacted Vodafone to enquire about upgrading to the Samsung Galaxy S3. After requesting my PAC number the best they could offer me was £7 a month off their £42 a month plan (handset free).

I contacted the "specialist upgrade team" via twitter and the link on the Vodafone eforum, and the best they could offer me was £8 a month off the same £42 a month plan.

This wasn't good enough for me so I'll now be leaving Vodafone and either buying the phone outright sim-free and going with a 3 or virgin mobile sim-only deal, or take out a new 24 month contract with 3 via Carphonewarehouse for £28 a month. There are cheaper deals out there (with 3 via other brokers), but I'm a little hesitant to go with one of the smaller brokers after reading mixed reviews on this site and other sites online.

My SIMO deal is up in March but I've been informed that I can negotiate a new deal now.

Has anybody been getting particularly good deals recently?
    David.
