    Good deal?
I'm on a Sim Only deal at present, 600 mins x network and Text plus Passport. Tariff is £15 PM but I get a £5 discount (net £10 pm).

Grandchildren want me to 'be with it' and get my first Smart phone. I contacted Vodafone and obtained my PAC from really nice chap, Bill. I have just taken a call from Retentions and been offered the following,

    Galaxy ace/HTC Wildfire s Grey

    600 minutes

    Unlimited texts

500 mb data 2gb wi fi

    24 months

    £26 per month 50% discount

    £13.00 per month total.

I also pay for wifes and grandson mobiles, so £13 it within my budget. I have thought of getting a Sim Only deal from TalkMobile or T-Mobile at £8 per month which includes 300 mins, 500 data and text (12 month contracts) and buying a Smart phone.

    Any advice/comments welcomed.

ps, if I did go for the deal, which phone would be the one to go with?

IMHO 24x£13 for Ace/Wildfire S with 600 minutes is a reasonable deal, but both phones are pretty basic.
Wildfire seems to have a little bigger memory, but shorter standby.

  • rang vodafone and asked for pac codes, which they gave me
Told them i was going over to Tesco, a couple of hours later vodafone rang me and said:
"We don't want to lose one contract, never mind four - what do you want?"
I told them I was going to leave as there was a good deal with Tesco and ended up getting the following for each of our four contracts:-
    600 minutes
    Unlimited texts
    500mb internet
    1 gb bt openzone
Free vodafone friends and family (unlimited calls between 4 numbers)
    Blackberry Messenger pack
    4 x new blackberry phones

Had them all for £15.50 a month each - £60 total
Happy with that result, had to take it out over 2 years but cant complain

    1. Check if you're getting that £13 price for the full 24 months
    2. The minutes/texts/internet mix is non standard - are they giving you a discount on price / upgrade on internet?

Their discounts don't always last the full length (even though they don't say that) and the internet increase might just be a temporary uplift

Also, don't take any "free PAYG" sims, because they will set up monthly contracts on them which you have to cancel.

Other than that, it "sounds" a good deal. I'd ask them to confirm the full details by email before you agree, do not trust what they say over the phone.

    2 x Blackberry Bold 9900 in White

    900 Mins
    Unlimited Texts
    500 MB Data
    Data Traveller

£25 per month on a 12 month contract.

Couldn't believe it when he offered that.....ummed and awwed about the signal and then came back with that.....insane.

Thanks for the reply. My post shows the email I received from Vodafone Rep. 24 months is a worry for me. I'm on Sim only and asked for my PAC and this is what they offered.

I'm really unsure and may stick with Sim Only as I can't see what need I have for mobile internet.

It is absolutely essential to have mobile internet if you are going with a smartphone. If you still get a smartphone and don't have it you will run up an enormous bill.

I don't want to be the voice of doom but I suspect you have been mis sold. That deal is advertised at £36 a month for 24 months on the Vodafone website. With all the goodwill in the world, I don't see how they can offer you such a massive discount . Have you received an email confirming this offer?

Do keep us informed whether this is or is not a legit deal.

    TIA,

    Mark.

Yes and the text message thankfully.

If not then am off to Orange for lovely friends and family discount code. So either way I am not paying the exorbitant rates I used to.
