I requested my PAC on Friday (contract ends 2nd of Jan) and told them I was going to tesco mobile, anyway I got a call from retentions today...

    12 Month sim only deal
    600 minutes
    Unlimited texts
    500MB of data
    1GB Wifi
    100 pic messages

I was going to go with the above deal because I was going to buy an iphone 32GB from apple, however I have now decided I want a galaxy s2 instead, so back on the phone to voda and this is my new deal:

All of the above but with 2GB Wifi

    Free Samsung Galaxy s2

It looks like Vodafone don't envisage making any money from me, I've been offered nothing by outbound retentions on a Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

I'm currently on a 50% discount deal which expires in January, so I requested my PAC code to try and get them to match or better the best deal I've seen. (£31/month for 18 months - 100 mins/500 txts/1Gb data + £79.99 phone). The PAC code was sent without making a counter offer and the call that inevitably followed also offered nothing.

Looking at their tariffs from when I upgraded 18 months ago, Vodafone seem to have got relatively expensive. Consider that with cuts in data allowance on tariffs, doubling the cost of extra data and the discount I have currently (not having any out of bundle charges) I guess it's not too surprising.
  • I just went over to a SIM only deal, as my iPhone 3GS is still in good working order and my paid work is only contracted until next October so I don't want to get stuck in a long 24 month contract.

Without asking they knocked £5 off there £20.50 SIM only deal, so for £15.50 pm I'm getting 600 minutes, unlimited texts, 500MB data and 750MB BT Openzone Wi-Fi.

It's a 12month contract but it can be upgraded/changed at 6 months if needs be.

Wow, that's a good price. Do you have a link ?

    ... best deal I can find is 24 months x £26 + FREE Samasung Nexus, 100mins, 500 texts, 0.25 gig internet.

    TIA,

    500 Texts

    Plus Free Booster choice:
    Unlimited Texts
    or Internet
    or Unlimited Landline
    or Unlimited T-Mobile Calls

    £30.64 x 18 months @ IntoMobilePhones

Ive just discovered the Samsung Note, its an impressive piece of kit with a massive screen.

The only downsides are its more expensive and comes with Gingerbread, though Samsung have said they will update it to Ice Cream Sandwich, so it might be top of my list - what do you guys think of the Note ?

It's just far too big for a phone. If you want something that straddles the line between phone and tablet then I'm sure it's an impressive device, but I don't see much use for it personally.

I've just got the following upgrade from Vodafone.

Samsung Galaxy S2 (black) - no upfront cost for handset
    300 mins
    Unlimited texts
    1GB data allowance
    18 month contract

    £22.50 per month

Very pleased with this. I got it by asking to cancel, getting my PAC code and waiting a couple of days for retentions to call back. The only slip-up I made was I forgot to ask for BT Openzone but I'm not too bothered about that.

Getting a new contract rather than renewing with Vodafone seems to be the way to get the best offer.

    Found these deals;

FREE Samsung Nexus - 300 cross-network mins + Unlimited texts + 500MB Anytime Mobile Internet Browsing + 2GB BT Openzone Wi-Fi + Vodafone Data Test Drive

    £31 x 24 months, but 9 Months 1/2 Price by redemption

    Effective Cost £25.19 a month x 24.

    and...

FREE Samsung Note - 900 Inclusive Minutes + 500 Inclusive Texts + Plus Free Booster choice:
    • Unlimited Texts
    • or Unlimited Landline
    • or Unlimited T-Mobile Calls
    • or many more Booster options

    £30.64 x 24 months.

I'm after one of the above type of deals, with no money down and under £30 a month, and an 18 month (or shorter) contract. I'm going to have to wait a few months for prices to come down and the 18 month affordable offers to appear.

Have you seen better prices ?

    That's a good deal.

Did they come straight out and offer you that, or did you have to haggle ?

Re the Note - I'm kind of coming around to your way of thinking. It's too big to operate with just one hand, so using it on the move to receive/make calls may become arduous.

My initial call resulted in nothing but my PAC code. When they called back they asked what I'd be offered elsewhere and I told them I'd be going for a £25 per month T-Mobile 18 month deal with 300 mins, 300 texts and T-mobiles version of "unlimited" data (as can be found through comparison sites).

They then offered to keep me on my current price plan (300mins/unlim txt/500mb) for £22.50 and do the phone for free. I then explained I need more data so they offered the extra 500mb on top.

So a combination of going in very low and then a bit of haggling. I was very surprised they could beat the T-Mobile deal to be honest so fair play to them.
