I have been with Vodafone for quite a number of years and i can upgrade on-line on 17th January and i'm looking to get the HTC Desire HD phone. At present i pay £45 p/m for 900 mins, unlimited text and i'm not sure what my internet availability is but i do use it anyway (i'm what you would call an easy sale for Vodafone) but i want to change this. I have never haggled with them or anything else, do you know what the best deal for the HTC Desire HD is at the minute, i have a Nokia N97 mini?
What is a PAC code and also what sort of tactics can i use with them?
I would be grateful for any help
I got 900mins, unlimited text and 1gb data plus bb bold for £20pm0 -

Best thing to do is to do the following:-
1. Search the internet for the best offers on all networks for the HTC Desire HD on a price plan you are happy with and note down the deal (operator, term, minutes, text, data, monthly cost, phone cost).
2. Phone Vodafone's upgrade department and see if they can beat or match it.
3. If they can't, tell them that you wish to leave and request your PAC code (it's the code you need to give another operator to keep your number when you take out a contract with them).
4. Wait a couple of days for Vodafone's retentions team to phone you and ask for a better deal. The retentions team can offer you a better deal than upgrades can.
Alternatively, the Nokia N97 mini is selling on eBay for about £100. You can buy a sim free HTC Desire HD for about £400. Tell Vodafone you want the same contract you are on now for 12 months sim only at £10 per month (it's what I've got). Sell your Nokia on eBay and buy a sim free HTC with that money and the money you are saving each month (£35 per month). It will take about 8 months to pay for it with the savings. Then, at the end of the 12 month contract, you have a sim free phone which you can use on any network so go for another sim only deal from whoever has the best offer. At least then you won't be tied in to paying for a 24 month contract just to get the phone for free. If after 12 months you want a new phone, sell the HTC and put that towards a new one or take out a new contract and get a free phone again.0 -
Just upgraded over the phone not via the retentions department but via upgrades first time I've spoken to someone successful in 4 days finally closed the deal just now.
£25 p/m 24 months contract
HTC Desire HD for £68
900 Mins + Stop the clock
Unlimited texts
Vodafone passport
Blackberry services
500MB mobile internet
Additional insurance for £10 p/m required in order to close the deal otherwise phone would have cost £160+ but this insurance may be cancelled within 14 days0 -

Why do you need Blackberry services if you're getting an HTC Desire HD? Drop that requirement and ask for 1GB data instead.0 -

I don't this price plan is for when I had the FAIL BB Storm which was subsequently sold 2 weeks after my last upgrade. I hope the HTC Desire HD lives up to all the hype.
I will make enquires to change this next week once the phone arrives, thanks for your advise.0 -

After requesting my PAC code from Vodafone and getting a call back the next day, I agreed to the following deal:-
Free HTC Desire HD
300mins
UL Texts
500MB Data
18 month contract
£25.54 a month
£10 less a month then they were offering on the upgrade line- very happy0 -
Requested PAC, no call from retentions. Waited over 3 weeks. Spoken a few times to upgrades and they are offering me rubbish offers despite offering quite good deals for new customers through quidco.
Am going to transfer my number to O2 pay and go using my PAC code before it expires. I am going to be travelling for 2 months from beginning of Feb. When I get back I will see if I can get a good quidco deal with Vodafone again as I will be a new customer.
Bit disappointed with all the effort required really...but supposed it worked out well as I dont have to pay line rental for 2 months.0 -

Just got a phone call from the retentions team after the web relations team couldn't make a good enough offer and so requested my PAC instead. Got the following:
Free HTC Desire HD
600 Minutes
Unlimited Texts
1GB Data
Free Sure Signal box (signal at my current address is a little dodgy at times so thought it best to try this out as I managed to get it free)
£25.54 pm
Very happy as the web relations team couldn't match this offer by a long shot.0
