  • Hi all,

I had some fun with Vodafone a few months ago. My mum has a PAY-AS-YOU-GO mobile phone with mobile, which she uses just for emergencies. She had £10 credit on it. However, if you don't use your mobile phone for more than 6 months, they take the credit away. You can probably guess what happened next. My mum tried to use her phone but couldn't as they had taken her credit away. They had given her no forewarning before they did this.

Via a frrephone number I phoned Vodafone to ascertain why my mum couldn't use her phone. They explained the six month credit condition and that it was part of their standard T&Cs. I complained and insisted that they gave my mum back her £10-00 credit. However, the wouldn't budge and refused to give her anything back.

I wasn't going to give in. So I found the email address of the Vodafone CEO and sent him a letter via em to complain. For info, I got his email address from the following web site :

    http://www.connectotel.com/marcus/ceoemail.html

Hey presto, I got a phone call the next day from Vodafone offering to pay for a new SIM card and also give my mum £20-00 credit as a 'gesture of good will'. So I bought her a sim card for £10-00 from carphone warehouse, which was effectively a free sim card with a £10-00 call credit. Phoned customer services, who then activated sim card and gave my mum free £30-00 credit on her mobile. This will last her for years and she is now using her phone at least once every 6 months.

My message is don't give in to Vodafone and keep escalating if you don't get the result you are after. It worked for me !

    I hope the above help.
  • HELP!!

I'm due an upgrade from Vodafone at the beginning of Feb and for the first time i'm totally stumped about what to get.

I currently have the Samsung Tocca.

From a phone i want the following:
    - touch screen
    - memory card slot
    - great connectivity for web (use it every day for surfing)
    - ability to get apps like facebook, youtube, weather, news etc
    - Document reader would be good as i have tons of ebooks in PDF format

Basically i use my phone to call, text and go online. I would also like to be able to get my emails from say hotmail, direct on my phone.

I do not want an iPhone and other than that i don't know what to go for.

My contract is £30 a month but happy to go up to about £40 to get the phone free (18 month contract only)

Any help would be great thank you.

I am so disappointed with vodaphone! I have been a customer with them for over 10 years, my hubby is with them, and my son, but not for much longer!! Can someone tell me what a PAC number is? Is it something I need when I cancel? My contract is now up so can cancel anytime (I know I could've cancelled 30days before but havent had chance to sort out a new phone yet). The main reason why I am miffed with vodaphone was a few things all adding up together. It started off with me dropping my phone. I went into the store to get it repaired on the insurance, but I couldnt be without a phone so I asked if they had any loan phones. Now just to get to the point to speak to someone in the store I had waited over 45 mins - which is typical in the Hanley store. My husband has waited over an hour on more than two occaisions just to speak to an adviser! Anyway, I was told they didnt have any loan phones that day and to try again another day. I need a loan phone as my husband works away, and my older children go to school on their own so I need to be able to be reached if they need me. Off I went, managed to hold the phone together with a hairband (Nokia N95 - when dropped the screen cracked and the back lost one of its little hook things so kept falling off and the battery kept falling out thus turning the phone off etc). I wasnt too worried as tho I couldnt read txts etc if my kids needed me I could answer and talk to them. As I said my husband works away and I have 6 kids,so I tend not to go into town much as its hard work keeping track of the younger ones if I am talking etc. When my husband was next home a couple of weeks later off I went to the store to get my phone sorted. I got there first thing so didnt have to queue for a change and the adviser rand up the insurance dept who asked me when I had dropped the phone. I said about a month ago - I didnt sit there and work it out but knew it was within the month as it had happened while hubby was away. Anyway I was told sorry, you should've reported it within two weeks, your claim is invalid. I went home to check on my calendar when it had happened and it had been 13days. I rang vodaphone up from home (knowing if I went to the store by then it would easily be over an hour wait) explained all to the person on the phone and was told 'sorry but you could be just saying that to get your claim through,we can only take what you said the first time ' (when I said 'around a month I think'). I replied I understood that, but I had been a customer for over 10 years and never made a claim, I'd not be likely to make it up! I then asked why when I went into the vodaphone store originally to asked about getting it fixed and getting a loan phone I wasnt told then it all had to be reported within 14days and the adviser said they would send me out a complaint form and for me to fill it out and take it to the store and ask the shop assistant if they remembered me to sign on the form. I wasnt happy but thought ok thats fine, not sure if the assistant would remember me as it is a city store and very busy but worth a try. Well the forms never came. For me that was enough to signal the end of our relationship! 10 years of paying my bills on time, spending a minimum of £50 per month, having insurance etc, never claiming, and I get treated like that. Well my son and I are definately leaving, hubby isnt sure yet as he wants an iphone and he is trying to see the best deal, but if I have anything to do with it hubby will be leaving too. I have been looking on comparison sites and vodaphone dont even have the best deals anymore. I guess they are now relying on customer loyalty, but for that they need to know how to treat their customers :(
  • As usual Voda retentions team were no help at all. I want an HTC Touch Pro 2 which is only abailable on a business contract. Can consumer division offer it as an upgrade? No. Can I transfer my contract over? No - well yes, but it involves paperwork and manually typing details and may take a while.

So my solution to keep my existing number?

    1. Order PAC from Voda and a PAYG sim from T-mobile (being sent a free one loaded with £5)
    2. Transfer number to T-Mobile
    3. Count to five
    4. order PAC from T-Mobile
    5. Order new phone on new Voda contract and transfer my number back in.

Talk about faff! The only other phone I was considering was the HTC HD2. This is the phone Voda made a big hoohah about pre-launch, then dropped it inside 3 weeks as part of the terms of their agreement with Apple to sell the iPoo. It IS available on a business contract. A 4.3" touchscreen with no keyboard. A business phone. Right.....

Vodafone will pay me via Quidco £100 for opening a new business account. Whats the betting that the web relations team won't give me the same...? The tarriff I want charges £100 for the handset which they repay vvia Quidco. Will they give me the handset free to save all this faffing about? I'll ask and let you all know.

Thankyou Espi, but it has been a couple of months now so too late to do anything - I have just been waiting for my contract to run out. To be honest, the fact that I went through the whole thing over the phone with a customer adviser (the phone conversation was over 20mins if I remember rightly) and they never even sent out the complaint forms just pushed me too far! After working out how much money my family spend on mobile phones a year, I have decided to cut right back (talked hubby out of his planned i-phone upgrade lol) and shall look forward to having very little contact with a mobile phone in the future!
  • Hi.
My wife's contract with voda is up - £20 for 125mins + STC etc. Do retentions ever offer cashbacks or anything like buymobilephones.net? they offered a free ipod touch for £20pm but can't be bothered to fill in all their forms to claim gift. If voda offer cashback we'd rather deal with them direct.
She's happy to keep existing tocco as there's nothing out there she fancies as much as her tocco (except iphone which is too expensive) so sim only. If not, any other suggestions?
