Welcome to the weekly Flylady thread. If you need help organising your week when it comes to housework, or just the motivation to do the dreaded housework tasks you have to do, come and join us, hopefully make it a little easier. You never know, you might start to enjoy it! Its been lovely to see some de-lurkers and some newcomers; do please post even if it's just to say 'list completed.....

Thank you Valli for last week's thread.

It is your responsibility to read the forum rules, please follow them on this thread as Flylady has been here a LONG time and is a fabulous support and resource for lots of us.

The idea is that even if you are really busy you don't need to fall off the wagon!

Every room comes back around next week so please don’t stress about catching up

There are 3 levels per day deepening on how much time you have. Feel free to mix and match to suit your own personal circumstances.

A few of the basics before we start the week

Hotspots are any areas which if one thing gets put there, loads of other things follow!

Daily routines/todailies are anything you need to do today and every day stuff like laundry, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals etc

Night-time routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth etc.

Fling Boogie/binbag dance - stick on some loud music, grab a binbag and whizz around the house finding items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.

Swish and swipe/S&S means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis
HHE/HHC/HHI Half Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for 30 minutes to the Benny Hill music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing.. other music may be used if you prefer!
HHE/HHC/HHI Half Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for 30 minutes to the Benny Hill music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing.. other music may be used if you prefer!
WM ~ Washing machine
TD ~ Tumble dryer
SC ~ Slowcooker
BM ~ Breadmaker
DW ~ Dishwasher
SOAADFA ~ Sit on 'bottom' and do 'nothing'
KH/XH/FW ~ Ex-husband and other not so polite versions
DH/DD/DS/DW/DP ~ Dear husband/daughter/son/wife/partner/whatever
OH/SO ~ Other half/significant other
NN ~ nice neighbour
Toxic (friend/mother/sister/whoever) ~ person in your life that seems to exist to make your life miserable
AF ~ Aunt Flo 'time of the month'.. nothing to do with flying but it comes up often.
ETA ~ Edited to add
Gibble ~ miscellaneous crap that appears forever homeless
Dot-to-dot ~ pick a small area (not a whole room) like a chair/coffee/table/shelf/worktop or wherever- thats your first 'dot' - totally clear it - clean it - and only put back what should be there - deal with what you have removed (not just move it somewhere else) then if you have time move on and do the same to another 'dot' -the idea is just like a dot to dot puzzle, you aim to join up all the dots and have a tidy room. The trick is to keep each dot tidy until you get them all joined up! All credit to AnW's Mum for this one
RoD ~ Room of Doom, the one room that feels like it is a permanent pit and cannot be used to its potential!

Mr S/A/T/M/L/Al - supermarkets Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi. You get the picture!!

Any more questions I bet are answered in the wonderful welcome guide which was produced by our much loved Toots

    I'm in..and first too.
Off this week so Villa Valli will be spotless, and beautiful.

it my sister's birthday later this month. Burst into tears buying her card because now I only have one sister to buy a card for. Took me by surprise, did that wobble.

I have cleaned my kitchen, I have made marmalade and I bought whoopsied chicken thighs which have been barbecued a la SW and I will freeze the extras, DS and I have had them for tea. Amazingly my spice etc cupboard yielded ALL the ingredients bar the thighs!

    Hi everyone ,

I missed last weeks but I'm back and would like to join in please.

I go on Maternity Leave on Wednesday so will have a lot more time to get things done.

Will have a quick tidy around the kitchen before bed, that will be one less thing to tackle tomorrow.

Well I'm always full of hope when the new thread goes up so maybe I'll get back on track this week. I don't know where last week went to, I'm sure. I did achieve more than just watching fairies out of the window, but it wasn't very structured.

Determined look on face. Watch this space.
Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.
  • Evening all! Thanks Natty :A for this week's thread and Valli :A for last week's. I was reading last week but didn't post as I was away for 3 days for my course and came home to a stinking cold which has floored me for the weekend and shows no sign of improving :(

Hugs to all those also feeling poorly or down for whatever reason xx

I'm going to try harder this week too.

Currently in a total fury with my mother *text censored* who is the most self-centred, opinionated, narcissistic, hard-done-by, over-indulged hypochondriac I know. I really hope my kids do away with me if I get like her.

DH diagnosed with MSSA (on Friday just before his planned knee replacement this coming Saturday), so frantically stuffing cream in his nostrils and scrubbing down with a special lotion to try to eradicate evil bacteria, otherwise the surgeon won't operate.

Poorly uncle now waiting for a triple heart by-pass up and DH banned from visiting, so he's feeling rather upset.

Dizzyland is not very rosy tonight...

Thank you for the new list, Natty, and I hope you had a happy birthday.
A (((hug))) for Valli, and a thank you for last week's lists. Enjoy your holiday.
Another (((hug))) to Dizzy: I too hope I don't get to be like my mother. I hope your DH's op can go ahead.
GWS to Froddy and anyone else still suffering from colds, coughs and BDs.

Had an email from a not-very-close friend who wants to visit DH. He very kindly offered to do anything he could to help us in the house. How on earth do I explain the FlyLady network to someone who thinks that the Internet is a dangerous place to hang out? I just replied that we are managing fine, thank you. I bet my house is at least as clean and tidy as theirs, thanks to the support and encouragement on this forum :T:T:T

I will try to be in this week, but hospital and college have to take priority yet again :(

Talking of which, I must finish one piece of homework before I go to bed...

    Evening all

Thank you Natty and Valli for the threads this week and last.
Belated birthday wishes for those I missed - sorry :o

I've made a jump start on the week as my DS arrives Tuesday night for a visit (probably about a week) and wanted to try to get reasonably 'spick and span' before that so we can spend some time together. DH is also on hols for a few days from Tuesday. So I've dusted all through today already and all washing up-to-date.

  • I am in, thanks for the lists.

Not a great start to the week - DS puking at 5am. Huge, huge thanks to DH family who called round for an impromptu visit on Friday, and announced half way through the visit they had all had D&V for 48 hours. Why the **** did you visit us???

Really hoping the rest of us don't get it. DH tells me I should keep DD off school even though she is absolutely fine and bouncing around (and has never had a sickness bug in her life, very strong constitution). I shouted at him down the phone - so he wants me to mop up sick whilst trying to care for DS, and entertain DD who will be bored out of her brains? I doubt he would fancy that if he was the stay at home one.

Rant over. Off to put the WM on (again)..... x
