  • It’s blowing a gale here and howling through my bedroom window. DS and gf are aware they will need to replace the double glazing. DS’s gf dad knows someone who
will do the whole house for £6k. DS’s gf dad also ex gas retired so he has said he can do the new boiler for them & get someone on gas safe register to sign it off.

Im pleased its all sounding positive for them. Am trying not to burst DSs excitement bubble but have tried to approach his plans with realism 🙄 and advised he cannot knock down all the internal walls downstairs and have been gently introducing him to the existence of building regs 😆

Dog has been fed and she is snoozing. I’m back in bed with a cup of tea. I’m hoping the wind and rain will calm down a bit later so we can go for a walk. I cleaned the bathroom last night so …
    Plans for today
    Walk the dog
    crumpets for breakfast
    hoover downstairs
roast chicken dinner- leftovers into freezer

I'm quite surprised people still want open-plan living after the WFH debacle in the last couple of years. Sometimes it's nice just to shut a door and get away from the rest of the household. I'm glad he's excited, though :)
  • At least you seem to be making progress with your introductions. They will both get the hang of real life when the mortgage goes through 😉

WAH isn't something they've experienced, but the idea of trying to heat a large space would be enough to put some people off.

Enjoy your day and I hope the weather settles.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.
  • DS’s gf worked from home when she was shielding & DS works from home now a couple of days a week. They would be removing 2 walls and I have advised to leave the wall with door to hallway. They are talking about installing a log burner and bi-fold doors. Once they realise how much it will cost for steels and moving gas & electrics etc they may change their minds 😆

I have just realised I will need an EPC certificate so I will ring a few listed on gov.uk tomorrow for quote and availability.

Roasted a chicken and some potatoes today. Had some veg from the freezer. Leftover chicken and potatoes will do 2 dinners & rest of the chicken will do a couple of sandwiches & stir fries.

Decluttering - started emptying the chest of drawers in the spare room. I am trying to be ruthless 😆 One drawer cleared and 3 to go.

Found the house survey and land registry documents & put in a folder on kitchen table so they can have a look at it. Shredded the old bank statements that were in the folder (2014 - 2016!)

The EPCs are less than £200.
We all dream of log burners, til looking into it and seeing the cost!
    Well done decluttering and shredding.
    Food sounds scrumptious.

  • DS up early and the dog came running out into my room as I obviously needed a wash! After being licked by puppy dog I got up and fed her. She’s having a snooze and I am back in bed with a cup of tea.

Trying not to get too mindblown with all that I need to do for selling. I’m trying not to get stressed. Plans for today
    - walk the dog
    - phone & arrange EPC
    - phone solicitors
    - go into town & get printer ink from wilco
    - start work at 12

Morning. If you do manage to retire early what sort of income are you looking at up to State pension age? Will you need to get a part time job?
I admire your fantastic organisation with all aspects of your life! Best wishes.

After walking the dog I phoned a few places this morning about the EPC and settled on the assessor my friend used. He actually did it this morning before I started work. Cost £55. My house is a Currently a D energy rating.

All food from stores today. Didn’t have time to go to town or phone the solicitor so I will have to do that later in the week.

@[Deleted User] thank you, yes I will need to get a part time job and may have to work until age 60 in my current job now there is no redundancy package. Once I have sold my house and bought a smaller one I will have a better idea of the equity left and then I will be able to work out my figures.

  • Have walked the dog and it’s quite mild out there.

Went to bed last night with a blinding headache and had some codine at 4am. Still hasn’t gone so I’m going to have a couple of paracetamol before I start working from home at 9am.

I didn’t get to the shops yesterday so I am going to order a home shopping delivery later. Co op app costs £3 and comes within an hour.
