I THINK that the boiling water kills the weeds on it's own, but maybe the salt will deter any other weeds from lodging there?
    I Believe.....
That it isn't always enough, to be forgiven by others.
Sometimes, you have to learn to forgive yourself.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery
Today is a gift. That's why it is called the present.

happiness isn't achieved by getting extra things,
but by getting rid of the things that make you unhappy
  • Sounds great you have saved a fortune! I would do the boiling water first. Then the next day add salt once the water is dry otherwise it may be diluted.

  • Thanks Chrystal. SW, I read that boiling water scalds the weed but salt dissolved with boiling water is taken up by the roots to kill them. But I will try just boiling water next time.

    It's Friday
Dropped a card at a friends after work 29p from my stash. Popped to morrisons for 6 pack crisps, kitchen rolls, yoghurt & bread rolls for next week. Bread rolls were reduced 12 for 98p, down from £1.39. Also got a microwave chilli & rice £1. Total spend £4.63.

I am off to hairdressers soon for a nice relaxing afternoon. :D
DS & his gf have just taken dogs to the forest for a walk so I won't need to dog walk today. The weather is lovely and the forecast is nice for tomorrow :)

Had a lovely afternoon at the hairdressers yesterday. Hair looks lovely, had a good chinwag :D and two cups of tea.

I must have a No Spend weekend as funds are now very low if I want to have £100 left to put into my emergency fund this month. All food will be from stores.

I don't get paid until Monday 30 Sept, so 9 days left for dinners.
I have 1 large gammon steak, 1 frozen meal small fish pie, 3 small chicken breasts, 1/2 a pack of halloumi, 1 pack micro-rice, noodles, wraps, bag pasta, 1/2 bag frozen potato wedges, 1 potato, 2 peppers, 2 courgettes, 2 onions, tin of sweetcorn, frozen peas & green beans, tin pineapple and various spices/sauces, so I will have-

tandoori chicken & veg stir fry with 1/2 pack micro-rice
Chinese chicken, veg stir fry & noodles
peri-peri chicken & halloumi wrap with potato wedges
1/2 gammon, jacket potato & veg & gravy
1/2 gammon, potato wedges & pineapple, tinned sweetcorn
    fish pie & peas

I will need to get something next week for 3 more meals. I think I will get a small pack of mince, tin tomatoes, tin beans and use up any leftover courgettes, peppers, onions, tinned sweetcorn and make 1 portion chilli with 1/2 pack leftover micro-rice and 2 meals of bolognaise/ pasta bake. I will also need to buy bananas & milk. I have enough in stores for breakfast & lunches.

DS has gone to work. His gf is on nights tonight but she is walking the dogs later today before work. They all go on holiday on Monday with the dogs for a week so I will have a week to myself :T

  • Hurrah for new haircut and also relaxing hair appointment. We are in the same boat I hoped we might be paid early but it looks like we will have to wait till Monday. Balls!

Your stock of food looks better than mine. It'll be strange to have the house to yourself but I hope you can enjoy it and walk round wearing facemasks and in your pjs. lol.

It's going to rain tomorrow. Make sure you rest a bit as you do so much.

SW you would be proud of me, I rested most of yesterday :rotfl:

Just 1 load of washing done. Work clothes dried on the line, hung up and mostly put away. Just 5 pairs of work trousers to give a quick press with the iron should only take about 10 mins.... I don't do ironing if I can avoid it ! :D

Have just let the dogs out and fed them. Not much rain so far as the paddling pool was emptied last night and is only just wet this morning.

  • Good I am glad you rested Skinty.

Ps Your cc bill looks amazing. Well done you. I am trying to be like you and not use it unless it is an emergency. It is vvv grey here all of a sudden. It was forecasted to rain tonight but I think it will happen v soon now.

I'm also going to try the boiling water and salt weedkiller thingamybob. We got home from two weeks away yesterday and need to go on a deweeding spree!
