    Hi Sunday Savers,
Re. using old seed. No problem trying it. The official advice is often to try sprinkling a pinch of it on a saucer covered with a wet folded piece of kitchen roll. If a good % of it germinates, go ahead & sow a batch properly. If just a very few, decide if you want to use the compost. If none......easy. Bin! Some seeds seem to grow fine even when out of date by a few years. Others like to.be sown fresh. I have struggled particularly with out of date lettuce seed, but have had success with other stuff. It's a bit random.

  • Hey everyone :coffee: :hello:
I've had a pyjama day today. Not intended but I woke up in a bit of a grump this morning and usually the best thing I can do is just ride that through. Must pick up and read a few pages of my book on dealing with worry because I keep replaying something over and over in my head instead of just letting it all go.
One of my pj days is not like that of the rest of my family. I have still gotten things done:
    nsd
    crochet
    2 loads of washing
cooked my kidney beans - now have 9 freezer bags full in the freezer plus one out to use :rotfl:
Cooked a big joint of beef for dinner, with ys veggies
    hoover
Other than that, fairly quiet - I even had a nap on the sofa this afternoon for an hour.

Angel/DNMS - it was one of the kids who took my £. He was caught on CCTV going through a whole class of bags and belongings while one year group was on dinner. He admitted he'd done it but the money was long gone.

Ditto on the old lettuce seed. I sowed the whole pack and not a single one germinated!

Oh hang on....thst was seeds. Forgot my list! Not much today though.
*Food lasting noticeably longer now we've resumed calorie-tracking.
*Dinner will be Christmas turkey slices in gravy I froze. Using some of our hone grown cabbage too, so 2 things out of the freezer (I have to fit 3kg fish in there on Friday)
*Two baths from 1 lot of hot water.
*Washer set on timer gor cheap overnight laundry.
    *Tomorrow's packed lunch to make.
*1.5 hours free fitness working in garden watched by our two robins.
*Popped to village garden centre to buy our seed potatoes, garlic & a bag of seed compost.
*mr f opened up one of our compost bins. Amazing how all that sludgy kitchen waste & garden clearings break down into such fab free stuff.
*mr f also announced that he's going to do 'Use it up' on his side of the shed......apparently this process will start with mixing together all l/o vaguely neutral paint & using the resulting shade to paint the shed. Yep...bring that on!
    *Read energy meters.
That's it for today. Am relaxing now. Hospital appointment tomorrow morning so trying to think calming thoughts.

DNMS, apparently my tax rebate came through on Friday and I've only just noticed, it's true what they say about watched pots! I just need to decide what the most sensible thing to do with it is.

I made the trip to buy sausages for tonight's stuffing and have divided them all into pairs and frozen the six I don't need tonight. I actually needed potatoes and cooking oil too but managed to get the spuds YS at least.

While I was there I checked out the reduced section and it is heaving, there is so much stuff that the fruit and veg is in a basket on the floor in front! I am planning dinner around going back down there later, I have my eye on some strawberries if they are still there, some plums to make crumble and they have some posh houmous (the stuff with oil and chick peas on top.)

I also picked up some mushrooms as I'm going to try making slow cooker carbonara tomorrow with the YS ham I got the other night. DH doesn't like cheese but I've seen a few recipes that use chicken soup for the sauce. I will probably use mushroom soup and will put a couple of cardamom pods in as well then the rest of us can put cheese on as required at the end.

Hope you are all having a good day! :)

Talking of crumble, I have some pretendy butter that none of us like, I can use that for crumble, can't I?

Forgot to say, I have helped DS apply for a job as a printers apprentice (read I have applied for it for him), I am really hopeful on this since he comes from a long line of printers it would be lovely to keep up the tradition (my dad and grandad plus I studied at LCP.)

    Good luck Foxgloves

FatVonD I would makes a crumble with that...probably needs less than usual butter if its like margarine.

CrazyCatLady, that must have been horrible to find out a student had stolen from you. :(

I have popped on to check my list out so will go look to see how I have fared. :D

  • I've had a fairly good day
I've applied for a 0% interest credit card and balance transferred two high interest credit cards one of which I have closed now. The other I need to pay off £50 (I didn't have quite a big enough credit limit to pay off both) then I can cut that card up :)
I als have applied for a first direct bank account so hopefully £125 coming my way...
Didnt spend all of our shopping budget money but I didn't then go and spend the rest of it on rubbish stuff. Woo
Had to replace the battery in my car key today and was going to pop to Halfords but checked at home and we had one in the drawer... saved £6
Going to try to have a week nsd this week

Oh and hello everyone I'm new :)

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi All

Back from work battered but happy, & with over £50 of unwanted booze to boot. Quite pleased with that.

    Small things

    1. Cycled to work and back.

    2. The booze thing.

    3. Roast a large chicken for dinner, we all had plenty for roast dinner, and there is a lot left for tomorrow evening's meal, sandwiches etc.

    4. Needed to look at getting extra furniture in for a future event but I've managed to get them on loan from a friend.

    5. Did 2 hours cleaning at the premises today. It's not a job I mind so it saves me paying a cleaner.

    6. Took a booking for £100 from a lovely couple.

    7. Had a little friend over for my son to play with this afternoon. Did them pizza and dough balls at home cost of £3.15 total. They had fun.

    8. Queried a bill as it's gone up a lot year on year but there seems to be reasons why I can't change this. At least worth a shot.

    9. DS has now got shin pads and a mouth guard sorted for hockey tomorrow. Both paid for with my roadkill :)

    10. Checked my business banking and updated cash flow and two monthly total.

Have to go to sign off my accounts tomorrow which won't be exciting as last year was dire. But it signals the final chapter in the old business. Next year's accounts will be for the new venture.

Also have DDs last baby jabs until her pre school shots. Who says I can't have all the fun :)
