think this company is in deep trouble. noticed today on my cheap energy club search they are now second and above the normally outlier out fox the market need i say more.
when tonik were good they were alway good customer service and about one page down which i thought was good price for good customer service. but i left as no cheap tariff since autum and winter until all this went pete tong with their billing system.
since then i have have switched and be unable to get final bill rebate although not as much as above only £18. no response to emails etc. from comments echo on here a once good company looks like it is going down the pan and now looks like they are going the normal route of "panic lets drop to rock bottom prices to get customers through the door."
  • First I signed up to avro but for the extra 2 quid a month I could go all green with tonik. My other half refused to pay the hike over winter when we had based the quote on actual 12 months kwh. They told me they do pay 3% on in credit balance and I can ask for it back anytime. However, after some degree of discussion, they would divide the annual figure by 12 and charge me that. I was happy enough with that though now see there is still 2 quid a month in it. Still, no good being a nimby if I don't put my money where my mouth is and I can now afford the 2 quid hike. In any case, I reckon 3% (and if do the maths on the 3& with natwest rewards or santander utilities on current account, any credit they have from you would be gaining 6%. Just a thought! Anyway, cancelled avro in the cool off and giving these guys a chance. Martin- I was told by tonik that if they go under offgem have to get a supplier but your info says one would then have to look for another deal when tonik told me they also have to honour the existing tarriff- if they are to be believed, this was news to me. Can anyone clarify this is true?
Also, tonik told me yesterday that they went live first time on the comparison sites yesterday- only 2000 customers and going since last summer but are about to grow- hopefully their admin can keep up. I also wonder Martin why avro went off the energyclub list on friday evening 3 feb because that's when I was looking, having decided on them a few days before then avro was gone. Now it's back! A glitch?

Gainsboroughgirl, In answer to your question, offgem WILL find a new supplier but at their standard tariff which is expensive. Martin is simply saying you need to switch quickly for a reasonable rate.
  • Please do not join this company. I left on 23 January for a better tariff and here we are over ten weeks later, STILL waiting for my final bill and credit balance. Same old replies from them over and over again. My new provider has given them the final meter readings, I have TWICE and still no movement. They keep asking for the same old questions despite the information already given. Go to to Facebook page and find Tonik Grievances to see our problems.

I want to leave Tonik but with a faulty meter I can't see it happening any time soo. I was supposed to have had the meter exchanged yesterday but due to the ban on all but emergency work the appointment was cancelled, and rightly so.

I tried to log in just now - oops. They should be sending out reminder for meter readings around now.

So glad I found this thread as I was about to switch to Tonik from EDF, this based on MSE Energy swap recommendation. Now I shall remain even though I may have to accept a Smart Meter at some time in the future to obtain their best fixed deal.

Incidentally, I have never had any problems with EDF, everything is done on-line, no hassle.

    Hi Benny.
    you same as me
I hate this time of year.
    Been with Scottish power years.
do not want a smart meter.
no new tariffs, other than switch back to them and incur a meter, or pay through the nose !
I actually tried to switch last year, but SP made it so difficult, I stayed.
they are good, till you decide to try and leave.
cannot find a company with good enough reviews to switch to, they all seem negative now.
that’s why I am looking on here.
like you ,I am glad, but, looked at others, nearly all the same !
if you take Edf’s cheap tariff and meter, you will be back to square one next year !
    ditto.
all the big 5 are playing the same game.
the prices should be dropping like a stone now, price of oil.
    got a few weeks yet.
    cheers

I am at the end of a 2 year deal and find the one I plan to move to runs to Nov 21 and is slightly less than my current tariff.  I have moved between different providers over the years and always found EDF to be trouble free. They recently provided a refund when a positive balance had accrued and that was without any prompting. Perhaps I’m lucky.

Personally, in the current climate I would be reluctant to move away from one of the more financially secure suppliers.

I was thinking the same thing.
with all that’s going on , can do without energy company problems.
will just pay SP the extra, and stay put.
another year won’t break the bank.
just hate being manipulated by them.
they don’t have a fixed tariff below their Svr!
See if they bring any out !!

On Quidco for Tonik cashback it states "If you have already registered with Tonik Energy" in the "What will stop me earning cashback?" section.  I've been a customer with them in the past, does that mean I would not qualify for cashback?
