Everyone was, they didn't have exit fees.  They have now introduced them and appear to be stating they apply to everyone who moves after 9 March.

Otherwise, why introduce them, no-one is going to join them now are they?

I think it's immaterial because they must surely go out of business, so sitting tight and waiting to be moved somewhere else seems the best way to ensure you don't lose any money.

Excuse my ignorance, but why is it better to sit tight and wait to be moved somewhere else?
Not happy about the exit fees. It just seems wrong that you can sign up to a "fixed deal" with "fixed terms", only then to have punitive terms applied retrospectively. Surely this isn't legal?

Well if they go out of business your account money is ring fenced and will be moved to whoever "wins" their customers by the regulator.

If you search "what happens if my energy company goes bust" and choose the Ofgem link it will tell you everything you need to know.  I can't post the link because apparently I haven't been here long enough.

If you move now,  you're not getting a refund for months and maybe never, because Tonik are just ignoring customers who move, please just look on social media and see how many people left months ago and are still waiting for final bills and their credit back.   It's not difficult to find the information.

I'll be honest I'm finding this whole situation totally strange, Tonik are just rolling out platitudes on social media, the same ones for weeks, they're not anwering their phones or their general emails.  But it appears no-one actually cares that a business is behaving in this way.  When TSB messed up their IT at least after a while people with authority to do something got involved, but it seems that if you're an energy company you can take your customers money and give them no bills, no refunds and no customer service and anyone who could get involved and kick them into line is just sitting with their fingers in their ears going "Lalalalala - not listening."

I have no idea if changing the terms and conditions is legal - but as I said, no-one seems to be paying any attention to Tonik Energy to see if they're sticking to the rules.

I've been amazed that this thread has been so sluggish since this has been going on for weeks with Tonik Energy.

I think you'll find that that reply was to someone asking if they moved to a cheaper tariff NOW, would the fees apply.

I read it as yes they would apply if you didn't move before 9/3.

Happy to be proved wrong of course, but ... pointless to apply exit fees that only apply for new customers because they won't be getting any new customers, lets face it.

Standing Charges up to 9 February 2020 £xxx

But you said it was wrong, how is that a good sign?

I'm starting to realise how Tonik are getting away with this.

I'm glad you think it's funny.  Personally I think it's appalling that an energy company is doing this, and am totally unable to find any funny side at all.

The fact that you do amazes me.

It was a joke at getting a January gas bill for 69p not the situation. The only fact i've seen is that you keep posting incorrect information.
