I contracted with Tonik Energy in 2018 and up to December 2019 they were first rate and very reliable. Meter reading requests were always issued just before the end of a calendar month and bills were issued promptly after those readings were submitted online. From the end of 2019 however, the service has gone completely downhill! The company's accounts to 31 March 2019 were filed 2 months late and reveal that the company is totally insolvent. The accompanying auditors report contains a "Material Uncertainty" paragraph questioning the company's ability to survive the next 12 months!. I have now switched to a new provider but like many other former customers it would seem, am still awaiting a final bill and repayment of my credit balance. I really am flabbergasted that OFGEM have not withdrawn the company's license as it is clear the company is still taking on new business. In my view this is tantamount to fraudulent trading, although I do see that the directors have legal indemnity protection so maybe they think they are protected personally. I think they might find this would be an erroneous judgement on their part!

I know my account is at least £80 in credit and was going to wait until it was sorted before leaving but feel I just want out now.

Perhaps you should all post on Trust Pilot as Tonik Energy replies to some reviews on that site. Why they don't update the information on their own website is puzzling to me. That is where all their customers expect to manage their accounts and obtain 'up to date' information. Their transition is taking a very long time and there appears to be no end date.

If you raise your concerns with the Energy Ombudsman and/or Ofgem you will most likely be the victim of a buck passing exercise. In the end I got more help from the online Citizens Advice Bureau who were able to get me through to Tonik on a "secret" hotline. That was followed by a brief exchange of emails and miraculously the website then seemed to go live. I have yet to check out if it still is though.Telegraph Sam
There are also unknown unknowns - the one's we don't know we don't know1 -
Has anybody contacted Ofgem for a statement on tonik’s liquidity? Is it time to leave the sinking ship? Before they get assigned to a bigger energy supplier1

Have been with Tonik for a few years and they were great until the end of 2019. They do not even request meter readings and access to the account pages on their website no longer works so meter readings cannot be uploaded. I have cash in credits with them, which no doubt I will lose. Anyone know what to do next? I am looking at a switch and then try and get my cash back. Poor state of affairs. Plus they are still being recommended on the MSE Energy Club website!1

I suggest wait until they generate a statement. If you don't want to wait, ask them for a statement.

Is there an easy way to calculate credit balance? I've downloaded my last bill in January so I have some records in case they disapear.
I've seen people saying they are awaiting a refund months later for any credit. I dont really want to build up a credit balance for summer and have a fight getting it back. If you cancel the direct debit do they just bill you? (unlikley to even get a bill with the current state)0
