They have you over a barrel

So with virgin and other providers when you say you are going to leave because of the price rise they can give you a discount or apply credit to your account.

BT don't do this then ?

How does this work if you have mobile sims on the account, can you cancel them also or just landline and broadband?
The sims are 12 month contracts, if you get rid of BT broadband, you don't get the discount. On the £15/month, there is a £5/month discount.

Surely if they change the contract and you leave mid term, you get to keep the router, its their fault!!

So you can't cancel the sims due to this? The reason I ask is because they are all on the same account, bill and login id. We only have 1 direct debit payment per month for all BT services

No , you can only cancel the sims if they notify you of a price increase although they may include the standard clause for mobile tariffs that says they are allowed to increase your tariff by RPI without triggering a break clause , in which case you are stuck with the contract

One bill but with multiple contracts with differing end dates and duration

• I'm a little confused with the article.
I re-signed with them on 21st December. It specifically states what I get for free for the next 12 months. And yes, I haggled and got a bit off (not anywhere near what I get off from Sky, mind).

However, it simply says
"Our prices and terms may change at any time while you're in contract with us. We'll let you know about any important changes before they happen. "

Now surely that's verging on the unfair contract terms?

I'm fortunate with the sim-only thing that for some reason, they didn't restart that. So I'm on 30 days notice. I've actually found a better deal (ID mobile) so might move to that.
The smaller the monkey the more it looks like it would kill you at the first given opportunity.

Why is it that in 2017 we have to pay Line Rental which seems to increase every year because we want Broadband or Fibre with BT, SKY etc.

They're the same terms you agreed to in the first place though, and if they give you the option to walk away without penalty then you can use it as a bargaining tool with them (maybe) or get a better deal elsewhere.

How do you think the BB is getting to your house without a line? Who do you think pays for the infrastructure and the upkeep of it?

This is a tired old argument.

The same way as Virgin manage to deliver broadband without charging extra for line rental. It is essential for the delivery of broadband and included in the price, and listed as an extra if you only want phone calls.

What difference does that make? Well, it lets BT, each time they deliver one of their multiple price rises per year, be very careful to only increase line rental OR broadband costs each time, meaning that you can't cancel both in the case where you pay for line rental using line rental saver. It keeps them holding you over a barrel.
