Anne Marie she may not understand every word you say, but she'll understand that you're talking to her, and offering her attention even when you're busy doing a task so not actually stroking her. Trust me, she'll appreciate it. :o
Personally I regard dog hair as "clean dirt" - I know what it is and where it's come from - as opposed to something yukky and of unknown provenance! :rotfl:

My last canine guest went home on 31st December, and I have to wait til 10th February til the next one arrives, so I've got canine withdrawal symptoms right now!
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)

Thank you, much appreciated for the virtual broth. I have been having bowls of soup, scrambled eggs and omelettes, although have run out of freezer soup now. Still plenty of spag bol, bean casserole and dhal in there though, so I won't have to cook unless I want to. I have run out of bread though, so got some on the go in the bread maker at the moment. Might throw some frozen veggies, lentils and stock in a pot to make more soup later, if I can be bothered. Always feel that soup is the thing if I'm not feeling well.

I've got a black dog too, and it's continuous moulting all year round. I keep threatening to put her into some kind of a doggie onesie, if you can get such a thing, to save dog hair all over the place. (You probably can, I'm not looking, just threatening her, as if she understands my gibbering. :rotfl:)
Yes soup always seems to help if you're feeling unwell. If I've got a cold I like a spicy noodle soup, I use 1/2 of one of the wee packets of instant noodles, some stock, chilli flakes and a handful of frozen mixed veg and some tabasco if I feel it's not spicy enough. If I have any I'll pop in some cooked meat. It literally takes 5 minutes and always perks me up
Doggy onsie now there's a thought - unfortunately it's a nappy mine could do with as he's got a bit leaky:eek:. He's 15 and is actually pretty good for his age - gradually failing but still enjoying life, he was a rescue pup and I've had him since he was 5 weeks old as his Mum's milk ran out never thought then he'd still be ticking along:D

Thank you, and she does appreciate it, she's a wee sweetie, and her wee tail is forever wagging away, as if she does understand. I talk to her all the time, and sing....not sure if she appreciates the singing though, know that my neighbour doesn't, but at least the dog doesn't join in, or leave the room. :rotfl:

Not too long until you get your next wee guest. Just another couple of weeks. Enjoy when the time comes.

You haven't lived til you've hosed down a large dog that's just found a slimy, sticky, green cowpat to roll in. :rotfl: Or fox poo. Canine aftershave, that is! :rotfl: And the wonderful thing is, they always think they've done something so clever and wonderful and how on earth can the humans not appreciate this?? :rotfl:

Anne Marie I meant to say, I hope you're feeling a tad better today. :o

Have you just been in my kitchen? I decided just to get up and throw a pot of soup on, mostly frozen veg with some onion and carrots, lentils, stock and some hot spices. Will have that later with some fresh bread.

Awe sorry about your wee doggy being a bit leaky, but as long as he's enjoying life, that's the main thing. Wee soul.
Mine's a rescue too, two broken legs in a crash, had been living on the street for about 3 years. Fostered her initially until her legs were sorted, purely to see if I was allergic, but thank goodness I'm not. Vet reckons she's about 4/5 yrs, so hopefully we will have many years together.
Strays are a big problem here, and I have lost count of the number of dogs dumped in our street. I've tried to take some in before, but had to find homes, as was ripping myself to shreds with itching. I think that I am allergic to short haired, courser haired breeds. Mine is a Cyprus poodle/terrier sort of mix with a nice fluffy soft coat, the majority of which seems to be lying on my floors! As LameWolf says, it's clean dirt, so that's in my mind now....bye, bye hoover for another few days!

Not had the cow pat experience, as there's no moos around me, but, there's a lot of goat and sheep poo to roll about in. Also dead things like lizards are another favourite to roll in.....why would the dog think that I would like the smell of rotting flesh in the house? I read that dogs like to do this to take this strange scent back to the pack, forgotten the reason. Must get the local farmers to start planting lovely scented flowers....would much prefer that. :p

I'm sure that I'll pick up soon, actually feel a bit better this afternoon than I have for days, so am sure will be fit as a fiddle soon, thank you. I can actually smell the soup and bread on the go just now, so that's a good sign. :D

His favourite is dead seagull - it took more than a hose down to shift it and that was after he'd been dooked in the sea to get the worst of it off

    With custard I hope

Must say, I prefer apple crumble to apple pie.

When we were kids my mother used to make apple crumble. We used to have a competition to see who could find any apple in their crumble...

    Yes, with custard.

When we were kids mum wasn't that great at pastry - and it's an extra step as you have to make a mess and roll it out, then clear up that mess... so it was most usually crumble in our house.

I buy the packets of crumble mix in supermarkets because one bag does for 1-2 years ... and all you do is tip out the exact amount you need, the moment you fancy it.

Today .... it was pie in a tin day :)
I couldn't wait for it to finish cooking though, so served it up about 5 minutes short of its optimum cooking time....

Hope you still enjoyed it though?

I've more or less finished the housework before folk come this evening - just the floors to mop and that won't take too long. It's so unusual for me to entertain two Friday's on the trot but I am not complaining but I am looking forward to it just being me & pooch over the weekend no doubt contemplating what to do with the leftovers. If anyone wants me to lob some spare meat and white sauce from making lasagne their way just give me a shout:D
