Don't like couscous at all...strange stuff if you ask me with no substance or *bite* iyswim.
If you see it as a "binder/carrier" for other foods that'd just look a bit peculiar, then you can see some of its use as a side salad item.

e.g. if you take it and spice it up with some spices, then lob in double that volume of "other stuff", whether that's little meat chunks, or cut up veggie bits, or anything .... then it's a ".... couscous salad".

If you had, say, half a slice of ham, 1/6th of an onion and one egg.... they'd look odd if you stuck them on the plate and said "that's dinner". But if you chop the ham up, chop the onion up, scramble/cool the egg and chop it up - and lob the lot into a cup of couscous with some curry/chilli/spices, it's suddenly got a life of its own :)

It makes it look as if random bits and bobs are actually food. It's still best served with chips imho though.

Oh burger...I wish I'd read your post before putting some eggs on to hard boil,
You can always boil them, cool them, then lob them into the fridge. They keep for AAAAAAGES in the fridge.

    Go on, make that omelette.
  • I am not a lover of cous cous or risotto, and as for dumpling I would rather eat my own arm .Growing up in the 1950s dumpling were the polyfilla for lack of meat because of rationing and always tasted to me like beige cotton wool, but each to their own I guess :):):)
Not mad keen on pasta either although I don't mind lasagne,I do enjoy a curry or chilli and am just as happy if its made with veg or meat really.I suppose it what you grow up with fashions your likes and dislikes. a lot of the stuf in supermarkets I either haven't eaten or just wouldn't fancy eating. But different strokes for different folks I guess
  • caronc I don't know if there is enough! He eats a lot but maybe I could add a side of chips and beans.... Out of bread and don't have the time to make a loaf!

I wasn't overly keen on dumplings as a child until introduced to the joy of mince and dumplings at school dinners, my Mum always made them to pad out beef stew which I wasn't overly found of as she used to leave the fat on. Once I'd had them with mince I was a convert:D

I put a packet from the freezer into the nuker, pressed the button and did the washing up until that pinged. Job done.
    Sweet/sour chicken and rice.
    :)

It's a nice treat to have a variety of ready meals in -v- having a cupboard of random "food" that I have to do something with to make it look like a meal.
