  • Hi Marcio45,

You're dead right. I rang SKY again this morning to complain about the email from SKY etc.
after a new contract had been agreed, so I asked for the MAC code. The agent I was talking to said that he would get my original contract sorted, which he did. But, the line rental even though it stays the same as 2016, it is now running for 18mths, My phone package is also reduced + I get free BB the same as last year. Result. :T

To be fair, i always got amazing deals with Sky, but every year i am always ready to move on, if the offer is not good enough.
I am currently with BT for infinity, and must say it is great - speed and reliability. But with the price increases i am ready to move on... again. Got Sky for tv on a 75% off deal, but thinking already about a Sky Q upgrade. I just want to haggle, gives me a buzz. :)

Ditto. I once haggled for a chunk of prime steak that was cut off a larger chunk for the barby. The guy at the Morrisons meat counter sliced it off & said it'd go in the mincer, but I said surely you can't put prime beef into mincer? SWMBO was mortified. I'd already said months ago that a Yorkshire chap can't teach a Lancastrian owt about being tight with his cash. I got the freebie beef .:rotfl:
  • Latest response from Sky about losing channels

We are pleased that we will continue to carry the Discovery and Eurosport channels on Sky.
The deal has been concluded on the right terms after Discovery accepted the proposal we gave them over a week ago. This is a good outcome for all Sky customers.
We are also delighted to be announcing today a new deal with PBS America that will bring the best of PBS's factual programming to Sky, covering history, science, current affairs, arts and culture. The new deal announced today with PBS America, will see the best of PBS's factual programming covering history, science, current affairs, arts and culture brought to Sky and NOW TV.
We are also adding over 1,000 hours of programming to our On Demand service from channels like History and National Geographic. This means ours customers can enjoy the very best factual programming available.
    Thanks

And Discovery have now updated their original bland statement on the deal by saying:

Discovery's original announcement about the deal was more diplomatic in tone, but after seeing Sky's position, it issued a second statement, which said:

"The deal we reached with Sky is meaningfully better than our former agreement and their proposal. Furthermore, our new arrangement enables us to control our destiny in more ways, with even more opportunities to invest and launch channels and consumer services. Stay tuned in the coming weeks."

  • I have a random question regarding sky's broadband line rental increase in the hope that someone might be able to help me.

I should say, I am already unhappy with my sky fibre broadband speeds and when I enquired about leaving they said I would have to pay termination charges, denying my complaint about inadequate speeds.

I recontracted in late November and was given a line rental (then £17.40) discount of £2.41 for 10 months. While the line rental has increased to £18.99, the discount on my future bills has been increased to £4, maintaining my £14.99 line rental charge each month for 10 months, but it will obviously now increase to £18.99, up from £17.40 for months 11 & 12. Sky have not contacted me at all to notify me of line rental price increases.

Can anyone advise if I am within my rights to cancel my broadband package in line with line rental increases and the circumstances outlined above?

    Thanks in advance ;)

You can cancel as they have increased your prices. Speak to Sky.
  • I see Sky keep cashback 'pending' for 26 weeks (at least they do with topcashback) & you need to give them 2 weeks notice. So though their letter admits you have a right to leave them, unless you're over half-way though your contract, their held-back cash-back means that economically, you can't

This system seems to make a mockery of the 30 day cancellation that they are forced to offer?

I assume you'll loose all the cashback if you cancelled before you are 28 weeks into the contract.?

I wonder if a Moneysaving journalist might drop a line to topcashback, asking for a graph of the cashback Sky offered.

Were Sky offering higher rates in the last 4 months, as bait for get new customers? Did they do this after Sky knew they'd be increasing the price 9%, but before they made that public?

When I compared cashback in November, Sky was offering far higher cashback than its competitors, which it was not doing previously.

Customers who have their Sky cash back payment held 'pending' for 26 weeks are effectively excluded from their rights to cancel their sky contract in protest about the unjustifiable increase

And rightly so I'd say, it's your choice to honor the contract or not but you can't expect to get the cashback as well if you're leaving before half way through it.
