I don't understand this. Eon transferred me (existing customer) to the V19. which was much cheaper than the previous tariff.

That was then, how much more expensive is their cheapest tariff available to you now?

As you have already posted here, the alternatives that you have been offered now are derisory!

eon have obviously decided to offload money savers, as the majority of their customers are stick in the muds on the very expensive standard variable rate tariff where they make a good profit.

Apart from losing those customers on competitive tariffs that are ending, EON must be content not expanding their main customer base considering how unattractive their current 3 tariffs are!

I would be interested to know the rationale behind their current strategy -
Is it some sort of planned consolidation where they are cutting staff, so do not want to get into a situation where they can get a bad service reputation trying to manage too large a customer base with too few staff?
Being a German company is it something to do with Brexit?
Is it due to a potentially falling pound and they don't want to expand contracts because they could end up being unprofitable?
Could they be moving towards slimming down in order to boost their share price prior to sale?
    Any other thoughts?

The problem dragged on for much longer than that, and I could not move due to the technical issues. Eventually EON sorted out everything to my satisfaction. However, I still worry that the matter is not 100% fixed, as there was a small hiccup during my transfer to First Utility.

If you look at another of my very recent posts you will note that I liked and had got used to EON's online system, as well as their rewards. Like a number of other EON customers I did not want to leave, but their current tariffs would mean an extra £350+ pa.

Good service as well as cost are important criteria. I would cancel my transfer if they produced a competitive tariff, but as tempus fugits that looks increasingly unlikely.

I will get my wife to set up a spread sheet for future use. I tend to shy off that sort of thing.

Given your experience I will ensure that my meter readings are timely.

With EON having 20 days at current tariff beyond the end of contract date that gives 47 days for Iresa to complete the transfer, so 30/31 would be well within that time frame. It would even be cost beneficial if they completed closer to the 47 days.

My only concern with switching is that the last time I had a whole host of problems with incorrect meter point reference numbers and erroneous transfers. As I said it took a year + to sort it all out. I lost track over the number of e-mails and phone calls to 5 different organisations! Throughout the year I was assured by both suppliers that it had all been sorted out, but the problems were resurrected twice. I had letters from company solicitors, and an agent calling at my home to say that they would force entry to my home to install a pre-payment meter! This was in spite of the fact that I had always paid by monthly dd and was in credit throughout and have an impeccable lifetime credit rating.

I am still slightly concerned re the foregoing because when I entered my address and details into the FU online transfer pages they said they had no record of one of my meters. I then had to enter the identifier manually! Iresa has not asked for this information yet!

Hello icharus and sorry you had so many difficulties when joining us. Sounds horrendous.

Glad it was sorted eventually. From what you've said, I suspect the information held by the databases we all use to switch accounts wasn't right leading to the wrong meters being applied for. As we finally managed to take over your meters, the databases should've been updated with the right numbers. We don't control these databases but will have let them know the details as part of the process to finally take over your supplies.

To be on the safe side, I'd do as Hengus suggests and manually give your new supplier the numbers from the actual meters.

Sorry you're leaving icharus but fully understand why. Pleased, though, we looked after you during the time we supplied your energy and that you found our online services useful.

Yes Malc I am sorry to go. From the positive service comments on here and the assistance of you and your colleagues on this site, EON seems to have got their act together customer service wise. Please shout a little louder TTPTB about the negative comments re uncompetitive tariffs. I still have 12 days left before my switch is final!

I take it that you are aware that Eon bar their existing customers from their cheapest Tariff?

On a comparison website enter, say, British Gas as your supplier and see what tariff Eon offers for new customers.

You are correct; It seems events have moved on,

There was considerable number posts, in different threads, toward the end of last year about Eon being one of the companies that would be offering their cheapest tariffs only to new customers.

Malc and Helena(the Eon reps) were at pains to assure us that they fed back all the negative comments to their masters.

    This is one such thread:

You (FredandWilma) contributed to this at post#5

Hello Cardew and, you're right, things have definitely moved on. We withdrew from sale the last of the tariffs you mention on 28 October 16. These were the Saver Fixed 1 Year versions 1-3 and Saver Plus Fixed 1 Year versions 1-5.

They were on sale for about 6 weeks in total and only available to new customers through Price Comparison Sites. They were part of the trials we've been doing as we look to redesign our product portfolio for 2017. As promised, Helena and I relayed all the comments from these Forums to those overseeing this redesign. Not suggesting our report led to the removal of these particular tariffs from sale but it did have an impact.

The tariff we released yesterday, the Saver Fixed 1 Year version 4, although similarly titled is completely different. This is for both existing and potentially new customers. It's available through our website or over the phone.

Hope this clears up any confusion.

As far as I'm aware, E.on's saver tariff v4 ended on 26th October 2016 (or thereabouts,) and i haven't seen any further saver tariffs, so which tariff are you talking about? A search (with British Gas,) only shows their standard and v21 tariffs, now available.

As above fredandwilma (post #26), we withdrew from sale the last of the Saver and Saver Plus tariffs for new customers only at the end of last October.

The Saver Fixed 1 Year version 4 released yesterday is for both existing and potentially new customers.

Sorry for any confusion with the similarity of the tariff names.

Malc and news from your masters . . .

Sorry Maxwell007 but you probably know as much about our products as Helena and I. We're told about new tariffs round about the same time as they're launched. We were briefed about the new Saver Fixed 1 Year version 4 tariff at 8am yesterday. By about 9am it was live on our website.

It's always good to keep an eye on our website as this is where new products and services usually appear first.

Sorry again I can't tell you anything more positive Maxwell007.

My Eon V19 comes to an end on Feb 6th and sadly there are some much cheaper deals out there than those currently available on Eon. So reluctantly I will have to switch.
If I apply to switch now, at what point does the switch kick in? I don't want to leave V19 sooner than I have to. On the other hand I don't want to leave things too late!
    Cheers

Sorry to lose you pineapple but fully understand why.

As version 19 ends for you on 6 February 17, you'll be inside the Price Protection window now. This is open 49 calendar days before the tariff end date until 20 working days after. Provided the new supplier applies for the account during this period, we'll make sure you stay on the cheaper prices right up to the supply end date. Exit fees also don't apply whilst inside this window.

If you time a switch to go through after the tariff end date, you'll be okay provided the new supplier has applied for the account inside the Price Protection window. Requests usually come through fairly quickly but not all suppliers have signed up to faster switching (about two and half weeks). Most have but not sure about everyone. Just something to be aware of when timing your switch.

Sorry again to lose you pineapple but hope this is useful.

That new tariff saves me about £1 per month over V21 and has a £60 exit fee. It really does appear that e.on doesn't want to keep its customers.

The new tariff is about 50% increase on my current e.on one and £400 pa dearer than competitors. I'm not sure I would even choose it over your variable tariff which doesn't have any exit fee.
