You are correct; It seems events have moved on,
There was considerable number posts, in different threads, toward the end of last year about Eon being one of the companies that would be offering their cheapest tariffs only to new customers.
Malc and Helena(the Eon reps) were at pains to assure us that they fed back all the negative comments to their masters.
This is one such thread:
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5531925I have a particular hate of firms - banks, Sky etc - who offer attractive deals that are not available for existing customers. - a kind of 'reverse loyalty'!
I have today received an email from Money Supermarket about their new 'Collective' tariff with Eon( Saver Fixed 1-year v1). Amongst the conditions is this statement:
Quote:
Availability: Not available to existing Eon customers****
You can’t get this deal directly from Eon
I appreciate this has been mentioned before in the forum, but not specifically about the practice of excluding existing customers from cheap tariffs.
At least with the much maligned British Gas, customers on any of their tariffs - including the MSE Feb 17 Collective - can switch to the MSE Oct 2017 Collective without penalty and still get £30 cashback from MSE.
IMO Eon should be ashamed of introducing this practice of excluding existing customers from the cheaper tariffs - especially in light of Ofgem's declared policy of simplifying tariff structures.
The very helpful Malc and Helena from Eon contribute to this forum. Perhaps they can convey this message to their 'masters'.Tariff summary
Only available through Price Comparison sites, not direct from E.ON. Not available for existing E.ON customers.0 -
...not just EON customers on v19 who will be leaving -there were several collective 1 year EON deals, which are running out in the first three months of this year - mine runs until 14th March:(0

This was the post made by fredandwilma in it's entirety (on 27th September 2016):fredandwilma wrote: »I haven't looked at this tariff before now as it isn't available to me, however, i decided to obtain a quote, given the debate.
The tariff is not too dissimilar to the tariff i'm currently on and would probably work out roughly the same in costs.
Units per kwh more expensive with gas, cheaper with electricity, SC more expensive with gas, cheaper with electricity, so overall the tariff is more expensive with gas, cheaper with electricity. Which is fine by me as i use three times more gas than electricity.
However, what i do find amusing is the fact the tariff summary states " Designed to suit customers who typically consume lower amounts of gas and electricity," (which is myself,) yet i cannot apply for this tariff and it is not advertised or available as such.
Just to reiterate - I'm a customer who typically consumes lower amounts of gas and electricity. When will a tariff like this be available for me?Tariff summary
Only available through Price Comparison sites, not direct from E.ON. Not available for existing E.ON customers. Designed to suit customers who typically consume lower amounts of gas and electricity. Before the end of the fixed price period E.ON will contact you with details of E.ON EnergyPlan, their variable tariff, which you will automatically move to, unless you choose a different tariff. Prices are fixed for 12 months from your tariff start date. Your standing charge is £35 per fuel lower than other payment methods if you pay by Monthly Direct Debit. Exit fee of £30 per fuel in fixed term.Fred - Where's your get up and go?
Barney - It just got up and went.

I must be living in a different World. I currently pay £635 per year for gas and electricity. If I switched to the FU 3 year deal it would cost me £233 per year more. In other words, for the 3 years the extra cost would be £699: even with a £100 cash back this is hardly a good deal imho.
Bear in mind if the wholesale cost of electricity (which currently is the more volatile of the two commodities) doubled overnight, then your electricity bill would only rise by about a 1/3rd as wholesale costs only account for about 36% of your bill. Gas prices are static, and if EDF's recent price changes are anything to go by, are possibly falling.

I re-appraised your comments and as a result discussed the calculations with my wife. She quickly pointed out that I had made a stupid error. I have now changed over to Iresa which was in fact the best deal available. We are only £44 worse off than the current EON V19, so not bad for a further years supply. Thanks for pointing things out.
As you say, follow the money, because there are numerous problems posted, concerning the allegedly better suppliers. From past experience the problems arise in the transitional phase. Once the account is set up and established things tend to run fairly smoothly thereafter. I hope the switch goes ok. because I literally had a year + of quite significant problems in my last switch.0 -

No Problem - it is easily done. I always enter tariff details into a one page spreadsheet that I have created when checking comparison sites and suppliers. As far as Iresa is concerned, my only comment is that they are a bit slow setting up online accounts. My electricity is up and running but my gas has still to go live (I am with an IGT). They will also ask for a meter reading/s mid month which updates a transactions table to give you an accurate credit balance. I also gave them another electricity meter reading on the 31st December which Iresa used to calculate my monthly bill which I received yesterday. I suspect that if I hadn't bothered then the 31st reading would have been estimated.
Bear in mind, that Iresa is not committed to 17 day switching so it waits until after the cooling off period before taking any action. My gas and electricity transferred at the 30/31 day point which is within the 35 days allowed in their Licence. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I will get my wife to set up a spread sheet for future use. I tend to shy off that sort of thing.
Given your experience I will ensure that my meter readings are timely.
With EON having 20 days at current tariff beyond the end of contract date that gives 47 days for Iresa to complete the transfer, so 30/31 would be well within that time frame. It would even be cost beneficial if they completed closer to the 47 days.
My only concern with switching is that the last time I had a whole host of problems with incorrect meter point reference numbers and erroneous transfers. As I said it took a year + to sort it all out. I lost track over the number of e-mails and phone calls to 5 different organisations! Throughout the year I was assured by both suppliers that it had all been sorted out, but the problems were resurrected twice. I had letters from company solicitors, and an agent calling at my home to say that they would force entry to my home to install a pre-payment meter! This was in spite of the fact that I had always paid by monthly dd and was in credit throughout and have an impeccable lifetime credit rating.
I am still slightly concerned re the foregoing because when I entered my address and details into the FU online transfer pages they said they had no record of one of my meters. I then had to enter the identifier manually! Iresa has not asked for this information yet!0 -

The main problem is with IGT transfers as it is a manual system. For non-IGT gas transfers, the database picks up the meter number from a database. Project NEXUS was supposed to sort this out, but it is running 2 years late and Ofgem has now taken over management of it. I always check my old statements for meter numbers, and do a quick check with the actual meter. FWIW, Iresa had no issues with my manually-entered meter numbers. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

My Eon V19 comes to an end on Feb 6th and sadly there are some much cheaper deals out there than those currently available on Eon. So reluctantly I will have to switch.
If I apply to switch now, at what point does the switch kick in? I don't want to leave V19 sooner than I have to. On the other hand I don't want to leave things too late!
