I'm on a very good legacy deal thru MSM with EON running til mid March - I looked at the long fix til summer 2018, but in my region it was quite a lot more than the current tariff so I didn't switch -in hindsight might have been better swallowing the bullet back then -but ain't hindsight a wonderful thing:rotfl:0

Scottish Power come out as my cheapest option but hell will freeze over before I sign up with them again.0

A belated thanks for this but another question sorry.
I've been dithering about switching. Presumably if I apply to switch now, it will take a while to go through, so I would still be with Eon and would revert to a standard tariff till the new supplier takes over? This is what I don't understand.
Say I apply to switch only a few days before the tariff ends. Surely Eon won't know anything about this till contacted by the new supplier so I would automatically go onto standard tariff. What if I have a billing period overlapping the tariff end date and have already been billed at the higher rate before the new supplier gets in touch (albeit within 20 days)?
I see the Eon site is down just now. They are due to go down for maintenance on 1st Feb. I suppose it's too much to hope for that they are working on some fantastic new deals...
Don't worry about asking questions pineapple. That's what I'm here for.
Switches usually go through in about two and a half weeks provided the supplier has signed up for Faster Switching (most have but there are exceptions). If not, could be more like 4-6 weeks.
It's important the new supplier applies to take over whilst you're inside the Price Protection window (as above, open 49 calendar days before a tariff ends until 20 working days after). If they don't, you'll automatically go on to our standard prices from the tariff end date.
Even if they apply after the tariff ends, provided it's before the 20 working days are up, prices will be protected up to the supply end date. As has been said, some manual adjustments might be needed but we've systems in place to flag up such cases. It depends on the individual circumstances as to what's done.
Hope this explains but, as I say, don't worry about asking questions. Let me know if you need any more details as happy to help.

If your tariff ends before meter readings are requested by the new supplier. Just ring your existing supplier and give a meter reading on the day your tariff ends (changes to a standard tariff), this means they do not estimate a reading, and you are charged as little as possible for using the standard tariff during the switch.
Morning CashStrapped.
As above, when a customer on a fixed tariff leaves us, we use a Price Protection window that runs up to 20 working days after the tariff ends. Provided the new supplier applies for the account before the end of this 20 day period, we'll keep them on the lower charges up to the supply end date. Customers switching will only go on to standard prices if the application to move is received after the 20 days are up. In these cases, standard prices will start from the end of the previous fixed deal.
Good advice about taking meter readings on the tariff end date just in case the new supplier doesn't contact us during the Price Protection window.
Hope this explains what happens with us CashStrapped but don't know about other suppliers.

Spot on grumpycrab. As above, confirm your posts, customers switching away from us at the end of fixed deals will stay on the cheaper prices provided the account is applied for at any time during the Price Protection window (open 49 calendar days before a fixed deal ends until 20 working days after). Where the application is received after the tariff ends but before the 20 days are up are flagged up so Price Protection can be applied.
Thanks for posting the link grumpycrab.

Unfortunately I've just started the ball rolling on a move away from E.ON. Despite E.ONs plus points, especially their enthusiasm to communicate with people, money talks and I'll be saving 12% over the next 12 months compared with the best tariff that E.ON could offer.
(unless they come up with a real surprise on 14th February that is!?)If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0 -
Well after 2+ happy years with EON, I've bitten the bullet and started my switch away. Better Energy 2 yr fix for gas and Iresa 1 yr fix for leccy. Will cost me ~ £170 pa more than current -but still be £120+ cheaper than the latest EON tariff(v6)
The NPower announcement today triggered me into action . I'd originally planned to start a switch the middle of Feb. but didn't want to find tariffs withdrawn in the next 10 days!
Here's hoping for a trouble free switch :beer:0
