Well the Christmas cakes could have done with a bit more booze in them as the fruit cake is a bit dry & crumbly but it tastes nice apart from that. Not too bad for a first attempt.

So next year I’ll soak the fruit in booze first and feed the cakes more too.

Work wasn’t too bad the last two nights although there were a lot of service cancellations as so many people are having to isolate again.

I took the kids down to see my mum this morning and we’re having a chilled afternoon watching The Muppets Christmas Carol. 😊

DH is working a 10 hour shift so will be exhausted when he gets in. Planning on feeding the kids and getting them into bed after their bath then having a relaxed snacky dinner with DH & a few drinks.

We just need to get the presents out around the tree, nothing to wrap or build so we can relax.

Thanks all, hope you all had a nice Christmas.

I must admit that it was stressful for us as DD woke up in a bad mood and just kept crying and was then overwhelmed by the presents and didn't understand what was going on. We had to put her in her cot a few times to calm her down and she was only really happy after having her christmas dinner and eating chocolate!

DS was very good and enjoyed Christmas morning but again was slightly overwhelmed and probably would have been happy with half of what he got. His favourite present was a toy bin lorry that my sister bought him! 😂 He did like his scooter and camera but the bin lorry was definitely number 1!

I did cut down on what I bought the kids this year but didn't factor in other people buying for them. 🤦‍♀️ So I need to remember to cut down a bit more again next year, maybe one big present, a few small ones and a stocking would be enough. 🤔

Both DH & I were working yesterday so the kids stayed overnight with my mum and had a great time. I also had a proper lie in for the first time in absolutely ages, got to read in bed with a cup of tea and old cat snuggled up next to me. I then had a nice bubble bath.

It was lovely to get that, DH never thinks to get up and get the kids and just give me a bit of peace in the mornings when we're both not working. I end up having to get the kids up and organised or nag him to do it which spoils any chance of a lie in either way! Then he moans that he never gets any attention. 😖

I need to get some cleaning done tomorrow, today has mostly been concerned with washings and cleaning out the robot hoover once he'd done his rounds downstairs.

I have ordered some bits and bobs in the sales - a light shade, wall stickers and pillow for DD's new room, Christmas jumpers & a t-shirt for DH for next year, bigger sized pjs for both kids to put away as they were half price and some half price christmas baubles. I got a couple of jumpers for the kids and a pair of jeans for myself as well.

I have also ordered some christmas decoration storage bags as everything is currently wedged into an ancient cardboard box once it comes down and it would be nice to have it all a bit tidier.

I need to stop spending now as we really don't need anything else. I'm making up a list of the things we'd like to get for the house throughout the year and am hoping we an save towards them or use survey vouchers for the smaller items.

The outlaws gave DH & I £200 between us for christmas - DH is using his half to pay towards his car repair and I want to save my half towards a new mattress for our bed.

DH wasn't very happy with them as they gave DS some knock off lego for christmas instead of the real stuff. 👀 However they then sent a cheque for £50 each for both kids. 🤷‍♀️ Why not just use the money to get the proper lego, think DH is worried as some of the knock off stuff can apparently split/splinter.

He facetimed them with the kids whilst I was in the shower and said they weren't particularly interested in the kids, were very impatient with them and then started criticising DS's new haircut in front of him. 🤦‍♀️ They also didn't really mention the gifts we had sent to them, including a mug we had made with a picture DS drew. 😔

When my House Troll was small but big enough to make a wish list I used to wrap 7 or so of his stocking filler presents and let him choose one a day from the bag as soon as the Christmas holidays started. This meant that instead of him being a whinging pain in the butt for a week before Christmas then being totally overwhelmed he instead had a new (small) toy or game to keep him busy each day. I had outlaws too, sigh.
  • Oh I don’t miss the outlaws at all.

I had forgotten how they were Sashy, probably best you were in the shower and not able to hear! X

  • The knock-off lego is so random. Who knew that was even a thing!? Gosh some people are just so odd. Your ILs sound mean and impolite. They need to learn some basic manners!
