I'd be surprised if the issue was resolved given that the original post was made on new years day. But doesn't look like the Op is coming back to the thread

Doesn't look like it. Yet he has been posting on other threads for the past 3 days, since he posted this thread, and was actually only online just over an hour ago.

Would be nice if he would come and update us.

Probably because unlike us, he has moved on! It was only due to go on for 4 weeks and the 4 weeks are over. The argument took place at the end of that time. So either they have resolved the matter and moved on, or they haven't seen each other or talked since.

What is stopping your friend getting a push bike and cycling the four miles or shock horror just using his legs and walking it. He sounds spoilt brattish to me. Why should you go out of your way to help and then have him make an issue of offering a contribution. You can do too much for some folk! Just say no
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

Yeah, I have cycled 4 miles to work before. Takes 20 minutes to half an hour tops for me. Much quicker than using public transport in many cases!

Didn't realise the journey in the case of the original post was only 4 miles!

If he's moved on why post in the first place? Ask for opinions and then don't come back to the thread.

It's probably that he's got more important things to concern him now than whether he was right or wrong to charge his friend for a lift - he's got problems with his car.

I just haven't been online much this week, I've had more shifts as well as university assignments to work with.

Off the top of my head, I'm not sure how many miles out of my way I am going

Don't you think it's relevant to know this before agreeing a reasonable cost with somebody?
